My ancient coins are in low grades, low details. I still don't know if they are real or fake. That's why I'm posting photos of them here.I don't know too much about ancient coins,so experts here maybe can help me 1-Please,authenticate them, tell me if theyreal or fake. 2-Idinticate them, tell me what are they. 3-Grade Them. 4-Are they valuable?Even if they are not, Tell me their values. 5- Thank you! Coin 1-it's Armenian King - TIgranes II The Great, 95 - 56 BC, I bought it from a coin seller on a street. Coin 2- it's a crussaider coin,I didn't bought it,I found it at my father's grandma house. Coin 3- It's an Ottoman coin, but it looks very unusual, not like the ones I have.It has different writtings from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock of the coin. The other ones I have don't have this writting.AH 1277?1377? Coin 4- This coin was bought from the same coin seller on the street. It's Damaged & Holed. it's written "GHAZY", Could it be Malik Ghazy/King Ghazy of Iraq? It has ottoman design,It says the arabic words: " Dareb Costantinia"- Mint of Costantinia "Costantinople-Today's Istanbul". It has tiny reeded edge. The date is unclear 1262AH? 1263AH?1242AH? The Coin Dealer of the street: (I dunno if I had posted this images before) He sells every kind of antiquity, sometimes u can even find ivory Tesbahs,Rolex watches & books of stamps. The guy who's standing at the right of the photo is looking for Paper Money in the album. He is on Wiskey most of the time & He wants to say HI to Cointalk.
Sorry, IDK anything about ancients. Tell the guy I say hello. He needs some ice for his whiskey. FYI Real Rolex don't tick, its more like a smooth constant movement.
Stainless on what do you base that the second one is fake? It is a decent match for mine wich I am fairly confident is genuine. Richard
Nope...nevermind what I said.. I have to get more knowledge at this stuff befor I give definate answers..wont do it again for a while. stainless
Stainless Don't stop posting your opinion on these, you won't learn and niether will we. Instead of posting "those are fakes" try posting "I Think they are fakes" and then tell us why you think that way. You may be right, you may not. This will give others the chance to look at it from your perspective, and if they feel you are wrong they can point out why instead of just dissagreeing with you. This way everyone learns. Richard
Okay, well here it goes. Coin #1 seems just odd. The wear looks off, and it should be even througout the coin. The style is off, IMO. Plus, this one of those coin that I'd be skeptic of buying, as these are a fairly popular coin and usually go for a pretty penny (or at least my budget is concerned). Hagops' is a little better, but these are counterfeited commonly also: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=9 http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=8 Coin #2, I really shouldn't have said anything about, as I am just getting into byzantines. Wear seems odd on this one also, but could just be a weak strike? stainless
From my experience byzantines of this type are typically higher relief at the face and therefor wear faster there than the rest of the coin. the strike on his is actually better than mine. Richard
Ok, but don't it seem odd that this particular coin has a worn down obverse, but the reverse is still really nice - hardly any wear? not trying to argue with you, just trying to see your opinions on the coin. stainless
Just wait till you start on hammerd medivil coins stainless LOL one of the reasons that the head or figure becomes more worn than the text part of a coin is that there was a belief that touching a king/emperor could bring luck, promote healing. Mow most common folks never got this chance so the next best thing was to rub the image on a coin or talisman. Dont forget that a lot of them specialy during the christian era believed that the ruler was in some way divine and this idea was promoted by the church (it helped to keep the pesentry in it's rightful place LOL)
Coin #3 is a 5 para from Turkey, dated AH 1277, year 1 of rule (which means AH 1277) Coin #4 is sort of in the style of a gold hayriye altin from Turkey, though yours is not gold, and thus it would be an imitation. There are also several style details which seem to identify it as a fake. The date is hard to read but I think is AH 1223.
@ @ Ziggy,I found that there are 15 varieties of this same coin! I agree about the strike,it is good strike. @ stainless I'm also doubting coin#1 is fake. I'm doubting from its colour because Tigranes The Great coins are Drapped Bust. Coin#2 Weak Strike? I don't think so,I took another detailed photo, here it is: (Double Stirke?) @ Garette I buy from this drunk guy swedish silver coins for less than a $ lol. @ DIO LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL NICE ONE! BUT HE DOES NOT SELL ANY CLOTHES He has a lot of ancient coins! Most of them in Very Bad condition. One time I saw a "Sun Looking" ancient coin,I searched on the internet,I never found anything about it,does anyone know? It's a large ancient bronze coin that is not rounded,it's like sun, ZIG-ZAGs on the edge..very weird coin. < one of the reasons that the head or figure becomes more worn than the text part of a coin is that there was a belief that touching a king/emperor could bring luck, promote healing.> Wow,De Orc! Coin 4 is not gold! It's very very tinny, thin, ligth weight coin.Thank you for letting me know about it,I was thinking it was a very old islamic coin. Bank ottoman COIN#6 10 Qurish, 1293 it has a weight of 24.2 gr. or 22.4 I'm not sure, this numbers I'm forgetting a lot, raddar numbers. I bought it 4 $15,I took it to a dealer to ask if it is a Silver? He told me : NO NO,this doesn't look like a silver coin, it's is BRONZE! I'm confused, is it fake? What is the value of this condition? COIN#7 a Bronze Ottoman coin that I can't find on the internet.Have u seen such thing before? AH 1223 COIN#8 EGYPT,OTTOMAN COIN, AH 1223, I bought this from the old coin dealer on the street for $5. I don't think it's fake. But I don't know what is it.
