Error on ‘58 Lincoln Cent

    The 9 in the date specifically is extremely odd on this coin. I believe this may be some kind of die deterioration? Is anyone familiar with this sort of error? I see what I believe is strong machine doubling throughout the obverse face. It doesn’t appear to be a true double die, I don’t think. Note: the mark to the northeast of the mint mark is a fiber.

    IMHO looks like a minor die chip in the 9, going to wait for more opinions

    It is a die chip. It happens when a chunk of the minting die breaks off leaving a void in the design. Meow keeps all of the ones Meow finds.

    And the correct numismatic terminology is actually Doubled Die.. Not double die. For your future posts.
