The 9 in the date specifically is extremely odd on this coin. I believe this may be some kind of die deterioration? Is anyone familiar with this sort of error? I see what I believe is strong machine doubling throughout the obverse face. It doesn’t appear to be a true double die, I don’t think. Note: the mark to the northeast of the mint mark is a fiber.
It is a die chip. It happens when a chunk of the minting die breaks off leaving a void in the design. Meow keeps all of the ones Meow finds.
