Some of you know, I came into a ton of coins. I bought the big coin book 1901-2000. I have decided the coin world is larger than the world itself. The rabbit hole I leaped into is even larger. I have learned a ton on this site and I am glad I was accepted to join. Many of you are extremely helpful, brutally honest and just amazing people. Here's the thing, I have many hobbies and I don't know if I can keep going through coins, looking them up. Even after that, I have zero idea what to do with them. Heck, I don't even know if Third Reich German coins are even moved around. I know I don't care for them, I had 4 Uncles serve in and survive WWII. I have been to the Normandy Memorial in France. Then you look at Isle of Man coins in the book. There is a reason I have the "confused" emoji. Damn this rabbit hole, it gets deeper and deeper every day. Thanks for reading the rant. Skully
I've learned that with any hobby you can start out easy and before you know it you are building a new garage to store the one of everything that you want or acquire. Doesn't matter, hunting fishing, bowling, stamps or Pez dispensers.
I have so many hobbies that I don't have any one main hobby anymore. I tie flies for steelies, I build the rods with which I catch them. I hunt. I fish. I smoke meats. I judge smoked meats. That and household chores and full time work really eats up much of my time. That and range therapy to boot. Sometimes I just want to sit around and do nothing, but that isn't possible. Life makes things go 'round. Fail to exist means existence is futile. I refuse to not exist.
I have been enamored with US coins for fifty years now and I can’t touch most of the educated numismatic minds on this forum half my age. I have dabbled a wee bit into some ancient and world coins and I recognize that I do not have enough neural receptors left in my head to even begin to comprehend those wide open areas of numismatics...... But that’s OK. I love what I love and have worked and earned some nice pieces in my life that I much enjoy.... And that is the key word in all this. Enjoy your time with your coins. There’s more than enough stress in the world to go around. Pick a few pieces that you like and simply enjoy them for their art, history, attachment to your family or whatever else draws you to them. There is no need to consume a large cache all at once. Put them in the closet. They will be just fine and when you are ready, they will be there. Good luck!
I got 26 lower grade SLQs in ICG & NGC slabs today that I bought as a lot on eBay, some duplicates, so mandatory reorganization is the task at hand! I have 3 PCGS boxes devoted to SLQs now, I think I'm going to get every date / mint slabbed before too long. I also picked up one of those ANACS slabbed Hermon McNeil Pattern Design 1916 medal proofs that some private mint issued a few years back - which I'm enjoying comparing to my low grade details actual 1916. The proof is prettier, but I prefer the original. I love this hobby! Shiny things! Me likey!

You may think that rabbit hole is deep, but it just scratches the surface of numismatics. Eventually that rabbit hole hits Mammoth Cave. That book just covers one century. Numismatics covers 20 centuries and not just coins but tokens as well. And tokens may be a larger field than coins.
