Ok, so I have lots of favorite children. This is a coin I bought in an eBay snipe a couple of months ago. It is not a expensive coin at all—I lucked out, as it was a 2 AM snipe, and got it really cheaply. I absolutely LOVE Blue toning.

This Franklin was a gift from a friend who knew I was looking for a nice proof for my type collection.

 

I would definitely pick my 1799 Draped Bust Dollar.

I may have just gotten it but it’s already my favorite coin.

I love the design and the historical period it represents. It’s only a couple decades after the American Revolution and so this coin (along with the Flowing Hair Dollar) represents America’s first attempt at making our own money.

 

This St Gaudens is the first gold coin I ever bought and is also the birth year of both of my parents. As an aside it is also the cheapest gold coin I acquired ($385):

I really don't know. I robbed the photo from here in a previous post I had made. Not near my collection at the moment but I'm sure that coin was just on my desk and It makes it easier to judge the size if you have something in the photo recognizable.

I'm sure many other members here have those same .medals, in better shape, I just enjoy these.

 

My favorite 1935 Peace Dollar. 35 is my lucky number and Peace Dollars are my favorite.

I could almost say either of my gold 1/4 eagles... But... This one is special to me.. an R-6 I found and identified myself... and the 1st coin i ever condemed to a plastic slab....

 

My favorite has to be this 83 Lincoln FS-801. An extremely hard example to find raw. And I expect it to stay this way for many years to come.
Why? The majority of my favorites are toned examples, I am a Variety nut at heart. I wish I could say that I cherry picked this example. I didn't I just happened to walk in the coin shop minutes after the dealer bought this coin. I made him an offer he couldn't refuse, as he already had another buyer in mind. It was only by chance that I acquired it without paying an amount that I couldn't afford.

 

Hey Pickin, please don't read into this post anything more than its superficial intent. I don't understand what you're talking about regarding your FS-801. What should I be looking for?

 

I had the same question, trying to look at this on my phone. Then I clicked on the reverse photo and enlarged it. Doubling shows best on "UNITED", but also clear on "ONE CENT".

This one... Though it is debatable whether or not it is a US coin. I dreamed of owning one of these since I opened my first Redbook fifty years ago. I am blessed with a nice collection these days and if it all went away..... This one will stay. I may even get buried with it!

 

The doubling is evident on all the devices on the reverse. Even Lincoln sits way taller than usual. This is what is called class IV doubling, offset doubling. The 83' DDR is one if not the strongest of the examples.

 

I have been wanting one of those since you first posted yours. I just don't think my pockets are deep enough.
