I got a message from eBay about coins and Managed Payment. I'll have to see what that really means, but as I've said previously I will not give them any more personal info. I don't sell much on eBay so losing that ability won't be much more than an annoyance. I don't know how much it'll affect my buying, but that wouldn't be much of a loss either.
To eBay "managed payment" means that they have managed to figure a way to get more money into their pockets. Me, I've managed a way to not use them.
Not sure about managed payments but another new rule will be irritating. They are requiring you to use more of the features in your listings like date and mint mark. Fine if you are selling one coin or multiples of the same date/mint mark but what about mixed lots where you can't use that feature? It's going to be like using SAP, one mistake or failure to use as they direct and the listing will not be publishable.
I got this too and am not excited about it. First off, I am now required to include the date and denomination in every coin. That's two more clicks in every listing I do. Who's searching for this when they look for foreign coins anyway? You can just type "sixpence" without choosing a sixpence category. And the managed payments, I guess we'll see how it works, but I don't want constant deposits into my checking account. I have a separate account for my hobby money and Paypal made it really easy to organize it. Now I'll have a constant stream of funds going into my regular checking account, which will make it harder to keep track, or else I have to go to the bank and sign up for a new account for this. And I'm afraid they will require tracking on all shipments. It might make sense for a lot of sales but many of the coins I sell are worth less than tracked shipping costs, and it often doesn't make sense to ship that way.
I got the email today. I’m done selling on Ebay as of today. No motivation to read through any more poop. I changed my feedback to private and made my own decision.
As Hiddendragon posted, my main irritation is the requirement that I list date and denomination on any coin, in the specialized fields set up for this. I have over 100 listings, so this will take some time. And where is the value added for the buyer? If you're looking for a 1955 doubled die, you'll search the Title field for "1955 doubled" (or maybe "1955 double", since so many people don't get this right, but I digress...). You won't be searchinhg for "1955" and "cent" in those specific fields, but that's how I'd have to list that coin. I've been selling on eBay for about 20 years, and they keep adding more and more rules and requirements, not to mention fees. It's still my best way to sell, but I sure enjoyed it a lot more back around 2005 or so.
I mean it does seem like managed payments at least cuts PayPal out - no more 3%+ $0.30 per transaction is nice also not having PayPal privy to your funds is nice I would prefer direct deposit and managed does it
Just pick the most popular item in the lot and use that info A lot of people will randomly search stuff with the filters. If I remember right paypal is cheaper under like $50 but eBay is cheaper over that. Regardless it will be a plus to have the same company doing disputes that does payments instead of wining a case on eBay only to have to fight the same thing on PayPal
I tested it out and you can put in something like "not applicable" into those boxes. You may also be able to bulk edit for your current listings (as long as they are in the same category).
Since I have a LONG history with PayPal and never a problem, I trust them. I also have a LONG history with eBay and have had a number of problems, I DON'T trust them. I will not give them any banking info. No Managed Payment for me. So, at a minimum, I will not sell on eBay. Whether I buy from eBay anymore is a TBD.
Soon to come! ebay to require a subscription to use their services. Stopped using. As for paypal, I keep getting messages that my use has been suspended - funny the last time I used paypal was over three years ago, I guess they will keep on warning me.
Yah. But if you are selling from China, it will be easy as you will have 10,000 of the same rare coin....
