    Rajendra Chola I
    1014-1044 AD
    Silver stater
A commemorative coin for conquering their neighbors Chera, and Pandya, the royal emblems-Cholan tiger, flanked by the Pandyan twin fish to its right, and the Cheran bow behind the tiger, all under the single rule symbolized by the umbrella. The legends in Nagari states, Uttama Chola, actually the name of his great uncle, but some say this coin was actually from the time of Uttama Chola (970-985) but it's highly unlikely that he managed to bring his neighbors under control.

This one was issued to commemorate Tacitus' victory over the Goths:
    [IMG] Tacitus, AD 275-276.
Roman billon antoninianus, 3.57 gm, 21.1 mm.
    Ticinum, AD 276.
Obv: IMP C M CL TACITVS AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust, right.
Rev: VICTORIA GOTTHI, Victoria standing left, holding wreath and palm; P in exergue.
    Refs: RIC 172; Cohen 158; Sear 11821; Hunter 59; CBN 1676.

This one is alliterative: Tacitus of Ticinium. Next: More alliteration -- a coin where the mint and issuing authority begin with the same letter of the alphabet.

FYI...hint...Britannia first appeared on the coins of Hadrian (also some of the other "good emperors") but I don't have one.

I do believe this was a common theme across cultures of the time. The Romans, Germani, Goths, Huns, all did the same.

However, some perspective is in order. When Boudicea's husband, Prasutagus, died, his will was ignored, Boudicea removed from the throne and the kingdom was annexed by Rome and all his property taken. According to Tacitus, Boudica was flogged and her daughters raped. Also, since the revolt was defeated in the end by Rome, the history was written by the victors. Did the revolt actually commit any atrocities or is that the characterization of Roman historians?

Okay, sorry for the interruption. Continue on......
