I was wondering if I had found a 1972 fs 104 still in mint package? Second opinion would be appreciated.
What you are showing here is the fs 101. Check the separation on the tail of the r and the notching on the top left of the I B E and R. I think it is more like this one on pcgs. This link. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1972-1c-ddo-fs-104-033-54-rd/38022
Yea, that looks closer . I'm gonna wait for more Expert eyes which shouldn't be too hard to find . LOL . Maybe by the Morning ? It's such a close sprea. You almost have to have the coin in hand to view . These Pics are terrible . Sorry . We will see . Good Luck Sir
Thank you. I didn't want to remove it from the packaging. Should I remove it from the mint packaging?
If the coin is in mint packaging leave it in there until an expert takes a peek at it. Good luck and welcome to CoinTalk!
There are 9 different DD for the the 1972 Lincoln cent.. there is a chance it could be http://www.varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1972PDDO004.htm
@Brian Stone You may want to call ANACS as they may certify it in the package. Call them 800.888.1861 you'll get the real guidance Be sure to tell them you suspect it may be one of the 1972 doubled die cents.
I forgot about this... they are all gone now. Be sure to click on IMAGE Gallery https://www.cointalk.com/showcase/1972-ddo-dies-1-thru-9-gone-are-2-thru-9.174/
After a little bit of deliberation am going with DDO-002. 2 and 7 are very close. It almost looks like there is the small die gouge on Lincolns lower lip but it is in the wrong place, the small die gouge under the N in UNUM is not there, neither is the marker under VDB. So #7 is out of the question. That leaves #2 and the gouge on the jacket looks like it is there. On another note very cool find, especially in the original mint set. http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/1972PDDO002.htm
Sal, you don't have to respond to every post, If you don't know then you don't have to respond. This is twice in the past couple of days that you have given bad information. We pride ourselves around here on giving educated responses. The doubling on that coin if it wasn't a true DDO would have been MDD. Which is master die doubling. That coin in no way looks like machine doubling.
Ok,enough of this pick on Sal hour . He asked for opinions and I answered accordingly . I based my answer on my honest opinion based on my experience . If you don't like my answer please keep it to yourself . We all get it wrong . We all do. This was my educated response . I don't always play games . Because of these jabs over the few months, I've decided to refrain from the nice gesture I was going to do for you all. I'm sorry there are some that like to belittle others . That's how I feel . Good Day @Pickin and Grinin and others that feel his way .
It is not about picking on an individual or belittling them, In my opinion the integrity of this forum is about giving genuine posters the best advice possible. Sorry you feel this way but it applies to you also, you got the replies that your answers deserved
I agree. We all need to be sure of what we are saying if we post it as being fact. I would hate to see someone act on my bad advise.
I totally agree @ldhair . What you said was correct and correctly presented to me . The other one was hurtful, if that matters to everyone . I never said I was an expert . I just voice my opinion and usually put JMO in the thread. If no one agrees , simply correct me in a nice way and move on. Thanks. God Bless . Take Care . Be Safe . Maybe we meet again some day .
Please Sal. The guy ask if the coin was FS-104 and you told him the coin is not FS-101. I don't care who it is, it's a good thing for others to correct wrong information being posted as fact. Not correcting false information would be wrong. Please don't ask us to do that.
Too put this into a further argument. What if Brian said ok Sal you are right. Never responded back and then spent his coin for face value. Then what Sal? No one is picking, call it constructive criticism. New posters have no idea who is giving them the best advice, and sometimes the first response is the only one they take to heart. Is that what you want for a new member? To have them just go away thinking that their coin is common because the first member didn't give them correct advice? I am not trying to be mean, just to the point.
