I purchased this framed mounting of two silver dollars that appear to be in uncirculated condition. They also have some beautiful rainbow tones from being framed for a long period of time. I am sooooooooo curious as to the mint marks on the backs, but to take the backing off would probably result in losing the silver dust in the center holder. If I do take them out of the frame I think I might want to have them slabbed, just because they are nice looking coins. Can someone tell me what the procedure is to send the coins in for slabbing ? Also what are your thoughts about removing the coins ?
Don't get your hopes up too high. They do not usually use good coins in displays like that and sometimes they use glue.
I cannot see the dates. But if they are common like I suspect, it probably isn't worth your money to slab them.
If you think the Morgan would grade a 64 or better and the peace is well struck and a 65, they may be worth sending in. Neither are rare by any means. If you can post a close up, maybe a few of our grading experts can give you some direction. When it comes to grading mint state coins, I lack expertise.
From what I can see, the toning looks great. Why screw it up..leave it be and let it tone even more. Try not to let your curiousity get the best of you.
I am thinking that if they stay in the holder much longer they may turn completly brown. I keep thinking about a 1879 CC Ummmmm !
I think you just recently purchased this on ebay, if not this one then it was one like it I saw. I looked at it several times and was really tempted to get it for my son, but there are so many other coins I "need" right now. Personnally I would just leave the coins in it. Like someone else said they are probably common, yet they look great in thid display. Very nice.
I'd love to see a better shot of that Peace dollar. They are VERY rarely attractively toned, and that one looks quite nice from the photos. If it is as attractive as I think it is, it could be worth quite a bit of money. Please take better pics (if you can) of the coins and post them so we can give you a better assessment. Hope this helps...Mike
Leave it alone is my opinion... Hang it in your den / room... Makes a great conversation piece...
I greatly agree with everyone here. You purchased that due to the way it looked and now want to ruin that? Makes no CENTS. What a great thing to hang up somewhere. If you took it apart, had the coins graded and put into slabs, they would sit in a drawer, safe, etc. So then what? What about the bill? Leave that alone and hang it up.
This one did not come from E-Bay. I would be interested to learn how much the one you saw went for or the connecting link.
Hi ! Mike, the coin is MORE beautiful than what I can show you, it has terrific rainbow colors. I wish I could take some better pictures for you guys, but the reflection from the case will not allow high quality pictures and I am not going to remove the coins at this time. Oh ! What to do ?
Ya know I bet that silver dust is in a plastic holder. If its like any other picture frame you can slide the back out and see.
Ya Know ya could be right Andrew. I never thought about it, but I will investigate. Thanks for the tip.
