Did the mint stop selling American Eagle Silver Dollar Proofs? They do not have any listed for sale on their website anymore. I have 2, 2004 silver proofs with COAs but I would like to add to my collection. I really don't trust more than the US Mint.

Thank you if anyone has any info.

They haven't started selling 2009 ASE Proofs yet... There is no specific on sale date scheduled at this point... I assume it will happen eventually...

This question has been raised a few times this year, along with concerns over the W-Unc for 2009. Though they are not listed on the upcoming releases, you may place a subscription for them on the Mint website. Presumably, that means they shall be produced sometime later this year. I believe the W's arrived in March-April last year, when the fuss about 2007 Reverses became all the rage.

It's apparent the mint is behind on their products this year, even after slashing their product line considerable. I am sure the switch to the new mailer, Pitney Bowes, has masde the problems amplifie(sp).

I got my 2009 ASE NGC ER MS69. I have not seen the proofs, and I honestly don't know when they will be coming out

I dont know why they are having so much trouble getting silver. All they have to do is raid another private mint.

They are not having trouble getting silver or gold. There are other factors that create the delays. Everybody seems to fail to realize what happens when the economy is turned upside down. There are lots of things that come into play. It can be forced shortages of manpower because of layoffs. It can be reduced number of shifts in a day from 3 to 2 or 2 to 1. It can be cutbacks on budgets or any number of other things. All of them have an effect on the moving of one product, and it can be any product, from one place to another.

For example, it's not just prceious metals that people are having a hard time getting - it's everything. Something as innocuous as an order of hot tubs for example, what used to take 4 to 5 weeks to get - now takes 10 to 12 weeks to get. Why ? It's not that there is any shortage of hot tubs. It's for all of the reasons mentioned above plus 1 major obstacle - the shipping of it. And the same applies to all other products as well, including precious metals.

Think for a minute - how does just about everything in this world move from 1 place to another ? It gets moved on trucks. And because there have been greatly reduced number of sales in all products across the board, there are fewer and fewer numbers of trucks moving. It's not that the trucks or drivers aren't out there, it's that there is nothing to put on the trucks. Trucks do not move unless and until they have a full load. They have to, they can't afford to drive with just a partial load, it just costs too much. So they sit at the loading docks and wait. That's right, they just sit there and wait until they can get can get a full load. Only then do they leave their point or origin for their destination. And this can take weeks.

So there is no shortage of any product out there. The problem is that nobody is buying anything. And with buyers there are no new orders, and without new orders there are no trucks moving to deliver those products. At least not as quickly as they used to.

This is how an economy works, every single thing is dependant upon another from the largest to the smallest. It's like a giant ciurcular chain and any problem with a single link creates delays in every other link that comes after that single link. And once the circle is completed that delay is then passed on down the chain to all other links yet again until the delays in delivery become double, even triple what they used to be.

There is plenty of gold and silver out there, there is a glut of it. You just can't get it from one to another in the same amount of time that you used to. So this creates what people perceive as a shortage, when no such shortage exist.

I work in LTL (less than a full load) trucking and we are even haveing a hard time getting work. Nobody wants to spend money. Nobody delivers freight. I haven't had a real full week since last November. Doug is 100% right.

The Mint has also slowed down starting production for the eagles due to the release of the UHR and the Lincoln Commemorative. Both the "W" Proof and Uncirculated versions are supposed to be minted this year, just may take longer to see them.

Oh, okay that makes sense. I was just trying to figure it out last night and couldnt come up with it. Thankfully I bought enough gold back in the late 90's and early 2000's at a good price as I cannot afford that price for gold right now. I have been buy a lot of old silver coinage and come across some good pieces at a local coin store going out of business. Got a nice first year Roosevelt dime in BU, almost proof like condition for $4. And found a nice 1900 Morgan Silver Dollar for $14.00 and I would say in almost AU condition, those two coins were among the steals I got. Spent about $140 altogether on everything I bought all pre 1960 silver coins.

The mint now has an explaination up that they are not doing the silver proofs and uncircs because they are having trouble keeping up with Demand for the general bullion coins. They are congressionally mandated that they must make enough Bullion coins to keep up with demand so they are concentrating on them until they can meet demand for all 3.
They say it better than I do:

    Exactly...

My wife works at EATON Corp. which builds truck transmissions. They have had 4 lay offs in three months with another looming. From three shifts to two and soon to be one...

Nothing is moving smoothly right now...

Could the 2009 W ASE be the new LOWEST MINTAGE?

"American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .”
The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products."
