1881 1c Indian Head Cent (Re-Toned??) I don't care how sick of this you guys are, I recently picked a Indian Head cent out of my average pile. The reason I considered it a problem coin I guess I put it with them the average coins because I though it was re-toned. The obverse is Dark Brown mirror like, or proof like, also nice detail's. The reverse was solid brown so I thought the coin has Ben re-toned, maybe smoke, I don't know, but I sent it off to PCGS to see i they would body bag it. So here's the coin guess what PCGS did with it... Guess what PCGS did with it...
OK Stella, my guess they gave it a 63. The coin has spots, uneven color, lacking in eye appeal and not the greatest strike. In other words, an ordinary coin.
Ya know, I really expected better of you guys. I thought you were better people than that. Guess I was wrong.
I suspect PCGS slabbed the coin. I won't hazard a guess at the grade. FWIW, it is not unusual at all to see these coins toned on only one side -- very often they were stored sitting face up, which tends to tone the reverse of the coin faster than the obverse if it is placed on a surface that has some sulfur (like a cardboard box, wood drawer, or velvet-lined cabinet).
I picked MS 63 BN I agree that it just toned differently. I see it's in a slab so it got graded and since you didn't put Geniune. I figure MS 63 BN
