    It looks to me like this is missing a layer around the edge...is that right?

    Some kind of acidic environment. Must be recent as the zinc is not yet bleeding out.

    Sorry to be so short Kelly. I should have said it did not happen at the Mint so basically you have a damaged cent.

    That’s is quite like what it looks like if a small amount of soda will do when left to dry on a new cent..... Car cup holders are a coins worst enemy!
