Anyone else notice that the ASE that was to be released on January 7 has been moved to TBD status? Anyone know the reason? Or expected new date?
Nope but instead of having to deal with the mint there are ebay sellers selling the 2021 silver eagles for pre-order since they have not been released yet.
Looks to me more like a scheduling thing and them wanting to focus on bullion silver eagles for the first quarter of the year. Appears they roll out a whole lot of proof options in Summer, but no date listed, so likely towards the end of spring they will switch over to make the W and S proofs, and the gold eagles and buffalo, and that two coin Reverse Proof SAE set and roll into the new reverse design with the 2nd W proof in fall/towards the end of the year. Yeah, I think what's going on is they want to spend the time focusing on banging out bullion with the first quarter to use up the old design dies and then roll into pounding out the proofs and switch into the new reverse at mid year. Of course I can't say for sure.... like for the 2020 S proof ASE it read "After 35 years the reverse of this classic coin is getting a makeover; don’t miss this chance to purchase the final issue of the American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin(S) with its original reverse design" and "with the last of this inaugural design minted out of the San Francisco Mint." This didn't say that for the 2020 W proof so I think they were up in the air or making it with the old reverse or not at beginning of 2020 when they rolled out the W proof ASE. Same thing again for the 2020W Uncirculated GAE " the reverse of this classic coin is getting a makeover; don’t miss this chance to purchase the final issue of the American Eagle One Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin (W) with its original reverse design", they didn't have that on the wording for the 2020 W Proof GAEs. So I think they intended until mid 2020 to maybe do some W Proof old reverse, and some new reverse, and maybe they still might, like I said with the 2021W Proof SAE They have two listings for it on 2020, and I am guessing one will be the old reverse and one will be the new reverse..... And the 2 coin reverse proof set.... Might possibly be 1 RP W old reverse, and 1 RP S New Reverse, and later in the year they make the new Reverse W proof. I also think they are making bullion coins in 2021 with both reverses and make a switch over around mid year. All speculation of course until they give details, but I think I'm on the right track here. They also might be holding out some availability in case they need to make 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars. House and Senate passed the measures by Dec 17th as I understand it, and it's waiting for a presidential signature. West Point and San Francisco, might be holding out some manufacturing space and time in case this president or the next one on the 20th decides to sign it. (being careful not to get political, please don't either). Anyways, things I know and things I speculated based on what I know. safe bet is it's scheduling and a few things up in the air that might need to be jammed into the schedule last minute so they held off on the early W proof ASE this year to free up the calendar some.
2 Ws proofs one early one late release. 1 S proof 1 W uncirculated the two coin reverse proof set I come up with 6 Mint sold Silver Eagles for 2021. and two bullion eagles so 8. they stated in the W uncirculated 2020 was the last of the old design. Same goes for the S mint proof, 2020 was the last of the old reverse there also bullion old bullion new W proof Old W proof new W uncirculated new S Proof new W+S two coin RP Set. 8 unless I'm missing something. Also why I think the two coin RP set is one of each, old and new, trying to get a new reverse silver eagle into the hands of the collectors that are trying to wrap it up with the old reverse design and stop the collection there. LOL
I'm wondering how the enrollment process will work. My enrollment consists of the West Point Proof, San Francisco Proof, and Uncirculated. In 2019, I had the ASE S in my enrollment. As you will recall, there was a San Francisco ASE and the Reverse San Francisco ASE. I didn't know if I would get both of them, so I emailed to find out. After the cow got out of the barn, I finally got an email, telling me that the ASE S RP was not an enrollment. I was dumb enough to not try to get it. I don't trust Mint as far as I could toss an anvil. So... we will probably find out what the Mint is going to do after the cow does get out of the barn. So...., is there an real info on which ASE coins will be minted?
I'm with ya of the possibility of the wrong dies being used, but, The mint website was clear that the 2020 S proof and the 2020 W uncirculated (burnished) was the end of the series for those two mintmarks, implying they would not be making the S proof or burnished 2021 Type 1. now, the bullion or (unc) yes, the W proof Yes. so 1,2, 7 and 8 I think are on the table, and likely to be made, while 3,5 are almost certainly out. the two coin RP set is 1 S and 1 W and they haven't said what reverses they will be yet, but safe to assume, since they announced the 2020 S was the last of the Type1 design, that the S coin will be the Type 2. The W could go either way as Type 1 or Type2 in that set though. I did not see on the schedule any other offers but anything is possible. there are only the two RPs listed on the website, not 4. so pretty clear number 9 is out also. As far as accidents and speculations go, the possibility of 12 or more could happen, but as it stands off mint given information we are looking at 8 announced. As far as possible varieties go, this is a good list, but safe to assume they follow their marketing and 3 of them aren't being made at all as they ended it in 2020. and one one of the W RPs isn't getting made either.
I got my list from the 2021 product schedule on the US Mint website. And I added the 2 bullion coins. That was last night but I'm going back and check again. I didn't know about the 2 sets of the reverse proof. I only counted the one set listed on the schedule. I was also wondering about the enrollment plans. I guess I'll wait for the cows to come home and see what they bring with them. lol
Hi Jim, the info is from the mint website and calendar, or what the mint tells coin news publications. As it stands the mint's website calendar is kind of set until March 25th only, but they can move things into the schedule that are still projections if time allows for it to happen earlier. All any of us can do is watch and wait and try to figure out what they are doing or not doing based off of what information they make known, until they just flat out announce what and when they are doing it. As far as enrollments, those apply to coins that are annually reoccurring items. with a special issue, like the 2019S ERP or the 2020W V75 silver eagles, those were one shots and there is no enrollment. As far as "customer loyalty programs" go, the mint offers free slow shipping after 3 orders are placed per year, LOL that's the end of the perks. I would assume with the design change you may have to re-enroll for the new reverse they kind of wording things as "end of the inaugural design" and in such a way as to make it sound as if the series ended and a new series beginning. I'm not sure how they are doing it exactly until they list them for sale and it asks if you want to enroll or tells you you are enrolled. your current enrollment might only be for the type 1 reverses, in which case as far as I can tell will only get you the W Proof silver eagle with the old reverse when it goes on sale. you would have to check what happens for the others.
I was new to the enrollment process in 2019, so I asked and got no answer until after they were sold out. I'm not mad, I just don't trust the mint. I had the Silver Proof Set in my enrollment in 2019. When I went back to the Silver Proof Set detail sheet, it said that I could add the Silver Proof Set to my enrollments. Dumb old me, I thought that my earlier enrollment for the Silver Proof Set hadn't been added to my enrollments. So I added it. I'm sure that you've guessed it. Yeah! I got 2 Silver Proof Sets. Anyway, I decided not to return it, so I gave it to my son for his 40th birthdate. He was thrilled and so was I.
I've got to be honest, I never enrolled into any of it, I don't like them automatically shipping and charging even if they tell you 30 days earlier or whatever. I just check in on the website every fee weeks and look for what's happening. that 2019 silver proof set is really nice though, 2020 was nice too.
"... don’t miss this chance to purchase the final issue of the American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin(S) with its original reverse design." This only makes sense if you are admitting the new design is crap.
Has anyone found out the number of the old format ASEs that will be minted? I know that a bunch of you will want one. If they only mint 100,000 or less, we will have to be on our toes to get one. The same is probably true for the new one. It may be worth buying one that is already slabed so we don't have to wait to see if we can get one from the Mint. They may jacked the price up since it will be the end of an era and a beginning on the beginning of an era.
That's not true at all. That has nothing to do with the new design, the last of something is the last of it period. Were they like don't miss the last of the flying eagles because that new Indian sure sucks, no of course not. It makes PERFECT sense to promote the first and last of something
