Pavlos You pick out the big men. I'll make them brave!

I believe these are Roman provincial billon tetradrachms from Alexandria mint. I recognize emperor Nero I think? All are atleast not Ptolemaic.

They all look like Nero with varying reverses including one of his wife Poppaea, a Zeus head, and so forth, here's my example.

    Nero from Alexandria:

Type: Billon Tetradrachm, 25mm 12.73 grams

Obverse: NERW KLAY KAIS SEB GER, Radiate crowned head facing right.

Reverse: AVTO-KRA, Draped bust of Egyptian god Serapis facing right, wearing Kalathos (basket) on head, date LI (year 10)

    Reference: Milne 222, Koln 160, RPC 5274, BMCGr 156: Sear 2001.

I agree. Nero for some reason issued simply tons of billion tetradrachms. They are by far the most common tets from Roman Egypt. His minor copper coins are actually fairly scarce since it seems he was trying to maximize his profits from the country by striking the largest denominations.

One thing you should know is that this early, the Roman emperors made a point of issuing tetradrachms that resembled the earlier Ptolemaic ones. Unless you'd already happened across enough Neros, it would be very easy to read them as being Ptolemies. ...The radiate crown is one 'tell;' I don't think the Ptolemies used those.

Coins of Poppea are scarce, I think.
