Hey everyone! I just wanted to share a recent buy with all of you. It's a 1766 William Pitt Halfpenny. Some say it was minted in England for American circulation, and others say they were made in the U.S, but we will never know for sure  They had made it as the farthing and the half penny. I bought the half penny, after all, the farthing's are much harder to find. Some believe that less than a thousand were made, but there really is no record of the exact amount. Here's a link for more information: http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinIntros/Pitt.intro.html BTW, these are the seller's pics, not mine I just couldn't wait long enough to receive it to not share it with you all!

The story behind these is something else! A few days ago, I held one in my hands that was VF to XF and I melted! I want one so bad and they are so hard to find at a reasonable price. :headbang: I'm so jealous! Ribbit
Ryan, congratulations on your purchase! Nice surfaces, and Pitt's bust is well outlined, and the ship as well. That is a coin i would like to have in my collection also. Nice! Eduard
Nice Pitt, I just added one of these in PCGS VF25 to my "colonial" type set last week after years of searching for a decent example. These are quite difficult to find with a smooth plachet like yours. An amazing time in our early days as a fledgling nation. I always get a chuckle out the RESTORE(r).
I agree with its smooth surfaces, you don't find many that have no corrosion, verdigris, etc... I wasn't necessarily searching for this coin, but I was looking to get a "hard to find" coin for my colonial collection, and then this came by
