Its up to Mitch McConnell to allow a vote and I doubt that will happen.

I thought they needed 60 votes.

I stand corrected. A typical bill would require the simple majority. Because this bill is being rushed through, it requires 60 as you said.

It wasn't my intent to call you out. I just wanted to get the correct information out.

No worries. I've been wrong before. I'm wrong this time. I'll be wrong again. I'm proud, but I'm not impervious to making a mistake. I own up to them when they happen. Unlike some who'll go down to the bitter end fighting with everyone they are right about everything, all the time. No names mentioned ;)

Really? I'm far away from getting SS, but I got my dad's statement and he is rolling in the money. After the COLA increase (minus the higher Medicare A&B premiums) he's set to get an extra $1.30 each month next year. And some people think those in Congress are out of touch with average Americans...

Health insurance? I can't afford it! If I ever need to go to the hospital, I tell all of the doctor's that I can't afford thousands of dollars for 5-minute visits. So, if they have a problem with that, just let me die. Most of them just say, "Don't worry!", send me a bill anyway and turn it over to a collection agency. No skin off their nose! Right?

You're lucky you can see a doctor. My dad's doctor contacted me (I handle all his affairs) and let me know that he has too many patients. So he decided to switch to a "concierge service".

For only $2,000 a year, the doctor will allow you to be his patient and see you for the regular fee/co-pay. The only benefit of this service was a guaranteed appointment time within 3 days and usually next day.

The office was very upfront about what they were doing. They expected to lose 80%-90% of their current patients, but the remaining ones would pay the $2K a year and make up for the loss of the others. The doctor could then work significantly less and make the same money.

A lot of doctors have done that or stopped taking insurance all together, there was a huge movement towards that after the healthcare bill unfortunately

I guess even in countries with socialized medical care, there are always options to pay more and get faster or better service. I can't say I'd be surprised, or even offended, if a doctor chose the path you describe.

Now, my doctor -- he offended me. Well, not as much as the patient he allegedly assaulted, but that's still plenty offensive for all the rest of us. :punch:

Republican Senator Pat Toomy right now saying there’s no way I hell he will vote yes to 2k stimulus.

Might be better off spending it now while it'll still buy something and people will still accept it.

Things are bad enough without the exaggeration. It’s still going to buy things and people will still lady accept it

He doesn’t have to worry about being re-elected. He’s not running again.

The problem is you've got millions of Americans asking for a handout when they haven't lost a dime during the pandemic. If you're going to spend the money we don't have spend it on the people that have actually suffered.

McConnell (R - Kentucky) who is the Senate Majority leader is doing his best to block the $2K stimulus unless he gets his way with his own bill.

That can be solved very easily. Just tell all the billionaires that pay practically nothing in federal taxes to pay their fair share.

The rich generally pay more of their incomes in taxes than the rest of us. The top fifth of households got 54% of all income and paid 69% of federal taxes; the top 1% got 16% of the income and paid 25% of all federal taxes, according to the CBO.
