I went to the coin shop yesterday and I never knew that they sold ancients! Apparently they have a big box full of them all under $10 in the back so I looked through all of those and bought a crap load of ancients yesterday. I wasn't looking for any coin in particular I just bought ones that I thought looked cool. Some are attributed, some are not, and I am not sure if some of the attributed ones are correct. I will start with the attributed ones.
You will have to decipher what I type from the 2x2s they came in because I dont understand "ancient" talk yet.
BTW I would love values on these. :)

RIC = Roman Imperial Coinage. The RIC # is basically how you reference a coin for attribution.

I doubt the one with the Star of David is Jewish because strangely enough the Star of David wasn't affiliated with Jews until the European Christians starting make them wear them where yellow ones as a mark of humiliation and segregation in modern times.

my pleasure. Actually I looked around the net and there might be some minor attachment to the symbol earlier on, but nothing I'd consider really significant.

    Hi freaky
coin # 7 is not an ancient, it a Morocco 1 Follis from the 1800"s. These are cast coins which is why they have spurs to varying degrees on the sides. mine is from 1856. The date is on the reverse which appears to be too worn on yours to make out.

for the other coins try www.wildwinds.com and go to the "partial inscription search" at the bottom of the second page. Type in any part of the inscription that you can read and then search through the thumbnails until you fine one that looks like your coin

    Good luck
    Richard

Huh. That is weird. It did look pretty ancient in the condition it was in! :)
Is it worth anything? It is still kinda cool. :D

Very nice coins, Freaky! Most of them are probably only worth $10-$15, but they are almost all solidly attributable, which is tough to catch when you start out.

Use these spreadsheets to ID most of them and to find RIC #'s for them.

The first two of your unattributed ones are provincials. The first is of Titus from Antioch, I'd have to know the size to further ID it. It looks like it has a countermark of Minerva standing. The second is also a provincial, I believe of Macrinus. I can't read the city name on the reverse, though.

Cool. I got sizes on all of them on my previous post. :) If most of them are only worth $10-15 dollars then I think I did pretty good for $5 each on most of them! :D I will try attributing them. :eek:hya: I will give you my results on them when I am done. I was totally thrilled with all of the ancients they had. :)
