I was given some Morgans, my share of grandfathers collection. I borrowed a Red Book 1995 ,was given some 2X2 to put the coins in. I will figure out how to take picture and get it online. Two coins seems to be worth a lot more than others. They are not pristine coins. From what Red books says they are around [guidelines] EF-40 maybe [I know picture worth a 1000 words]. I will figure it out. I get the coins authentication by sending them to get slabed right? Or should I wait for a coin show . Chicago is a little away. The gentleman, I borrowed the Red book from says there is a big coin show in April. He will go there with me . Should I wait for that time? 1896S and 1893S. are the coins. He says the 1893s may not be real, but he wants me to learn. He knew my grandfather. And it is the real McCoy coin like he was.
The 1893-S is a very rare coin! You need to get as many opinions as you can to see whether or not it is fake. If you like, upload some pictures of your coins and we'll see what we can do for you.
i say, first upload pictures on this thread and wait for our opinions. slabbing that 1893-s may be a good idea but consult us first. theres no use in paying 15 bucks (or how ever much it is for slabbing) if your not sure (or pretty positive) it will slab. i am definitely looking forward to seeing those pics as is everyone looking at this post.
Is there a program as how to make pictures of coins less big in megs size. .Do I just dial down image size on camera? Some times I get lost in the simple things.
An 1893S is the King of the Series. Post some pics Hopefuly it's a real one, there are tons of counterfeits out there.
If you have photoshop, you can open the photos in there, ctrl+alt+I and then reduce the image's size with a reduction filter. This will keep the quality, whereas in paint, your picture will become pixelated and undetailed.
Not quit sure the 1893S is King but definitely a Prince @ XF. Worthy of getting some expert advice. Post some photos if you can, this would help determining if it is Counterfeit. Try for macros if you can.
I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to sell the coins. If you can take good photos, you'll get better opinions about the value and what you should do with them here at CoinTalk than at a coin show. Nobody here will cheat you or mislead you. If you take the coin to a coin show, you may walk out without the coin and without enough cash to compensate you for what it is really worth. Also, and most importantly, DO NOT CLEAN THE COINS. Don't wipe them. Don't put finger prints on them. Don't soak them. Don't run them under water. Don't even touch them more than you have to. Just put them into the 2x2 and watch out that the staple doesn't touch the coin.
I just got home from work .I was not planning on selling the coins . Just getting knowledge about them. I have a reloading scale to measure powder, beam scale i will dig it out set it up and weigh the coin. and try to get some pictures . thanks for sharing the knowhow
..........one more thing. when handling the coin, any coin, hold it by the edge to reduce contamination.
I weighed the coins . How close to 26.73 grains does it have to be the 1896s was 26.62 but the 1893s was only 25.47. I weighted a couple new coins nonsilver, Quarters and nickels and they were right on the right weight[-.02]. Per Red Book. So the scales is true. I got to use a friend's RCBS Powder Pro Digital Scale . Nice scale . Does this mean a have a nice copy of 1893s? And need to keep buying MEGA tickets [272 millon]
1893-S Morgan With a weight of only 25.47 , :hammer::hammer: This would raise Red Flags indicating this coin probably is a counterfeit:hammer::hammer: Only hope at his point would be this coin is extremely worn. Get us a photo if you can.
