Is this a fake Alexander the Great drachim? If it's real, anyone have an estimate on it's value?

Do you have any pic s of the side? I would lean more towards real, but I'm no expert  There are some at www.forumancientcoins.com that can help, on the discussion page.

I don't actually have the coin in hand, and the seller wants roughly $25 for it. He's located in an Asian country so I thought best to ask around here first... :)

I don't really collect ancients, but I liked the look of this one.

But looking further at it, yah it is a fake. The style is off on both the obverse and the reverse. And I see casting pits.

I needed some time to think on this one. I do believe its fake, I see a casting pit below Zeus' armpit.

The style itself doesn't immediately set me off. There are a good many deviations in style for these coins. Bear in mind they were minted for years across an empire that stretched from Macedonia to India.

Neither does the price bother me - I only paid somewhat more for the ones I've owned.

Thanks for the opinions, everyone... I think I'll let this one pass.

A genuine drachm in that grade would be closer to $100.
