So I was looking at my 38 S and it has incredible luster in hand. Looking on the PCGS site I found that the 38 S in 67+ has a die flaw in the exact same place and shape as on my coin! Judge for yourselves...
I am feeling good from a couple of stiff margaritas, but still looks pretty much spot on... I know, take it out of the holder before photographing it, but as I mentioned above, probably not the best idea to do that tonight!
are you sure yours is not on the holder? it is probably on the coin but the holder has some dings that look similar so just asking
An overlay would help, but seeing how the OP's coin image is not as close, this was the best I could come up with, and I do believe they're a match:
All kidding aside, I think the reverses also show a match between the MO and down to the F in five and the double L down to the s in cents... A match on the die scratches. Which would be pretty amazing on a matching die pair on a modern coin...
I'm just curious. What's the grade of your coin. Also, how does matching the design flaw and die scratches have anything to do with determining the grade of a coin?
My coin is in an airtite, hence the title of Not a GTG because it doesn't have one from a TPG. I think the die scratches are confirming a hypothesis of the coins are both from an early die state (from the same set of dies) and are showing strong strike characteristics. This could also be true because this is the first year of the series and could be from the hubs and on all the dies from San Francisco? All things being equal, it could help in the in hand grading and determining whether it is worth sending in for TPG grading.
