Hi everybody, I'm new to attributing but I have done so successfully several times... I know this lg cent is a dog but its attribution has me stumped. I did my best to attribute this via http://www.coinfacts.com/large_cents/matron_head_large_cents/1826_large_cents/1826_large_cent_varieties.htm And I came up with 1826/5 via the "A" in americA in relation to the leaf, and the "sT" sTates in relation to the leaf. But look at the 5th star above the crown!! Is this is a variety not even listed? Any opinions I would greatly appreciate!
By what I can tell, it's a N-4: http://www.coinfacts.com/large_cents/matron_head_large_cents/1826_large_cents/1826_large_cent_n4.htm The leaf tip stops just before the T in UNITED and one ends just past the last S in STATES and everything else matches up. It is not a N-8 since the stars on the obverse do not match up. Ribbit
Thank you!! I must be missing something; I only get 3 varieties listed when I click on '1826 varieties' - do you have to change the HTML link by hand?? that works! Thanks again. Jesse
Yup! On that date, you have to hand change the URL to get the varieties. I figured that out some time ago. I attribute a lot so I will try anything to get pics to attribute with, on the ones I don't have books for yet. :goofer: Ribbit
And they show a lot fewer than they used to. Back when PCGS bought the site from Ron Guth the varieties pictured started disappearing and they started pushing buying the CD of the site that would have all of them. I was hoping now that now that Ron is back in charge of the site that it would get better but it hasn't. If anything it is getting worse. It used to be a great information site but not nearly so much anymore.
Ron just emailed me this morning and said they are re-vamping the site, for us to watch for a Newer & Better CoinFacts shortly. I heard they were putting watermarks on the pics, to prevent them from being used for fraud on Ebay and I've noticed pics are missing, so I figured they were in the process of getting things setup and it was only a matter of time and things would be back to normal. :thumb: Ribbit
