I remember when a first class stamp cost 4 cents and the mail was delivered on time...

And in the 1950s, letters & parcels were delivered twice a day in many areas ;)

The one I shipped that sat a week in my hub just arrived at Memphis TN. I live in NH and the buyer is in Florida. Why this is in TN now is unexplainable. It was a brand new priority box i got at the post office. So that excuse that there's an old bar code causing it is BS Screenshot_20201228-075343_USPS Mobile.jpg

When I was a kid we had to walk uphill barefoot in 6 feet of snow carrying a coal bucket to get to school and the post office delivered 4 times a day within hours of anything being posted for a halfpenny, good times, I tells ya!!! ;) Don't worry folks we'll get through this, once the vaccine rolls out and the post office gets some top management that's more interested in delivering the mail than privatizing it, things will improve significantly I expect.

My grandparents used to talk about the morning and afternoon mail, and having a letter picked up in the morning and delivered across town on the same day. Yeah, it was nice, but still not as good as email. :)

Obviously long before the massive bulk/garbage mailings and Amazon. When I was just a kid in the 80's, we'd get a piece of junk mail delivered to our home maybe once a week. Now nearly 40 years later, I had to buy an industrial strength shredder just to dispose of all the bulk/junk mail I get every day with my name and address on them. I didn't ask for any of this garbage? How did I get on the bulk/junk mail list from hell? And these companies sending out all this bulk/junk mail only have to pay a fraction of postage to send each piece of it. It takes the same amount of man hours and fuel to handle, sort, transport and deliver each piece of that type of "mail" as does each piece of legitimate mail. That's what's taking up so much USPS resources (man hours, fuel, transportation, space, etc.). I wish the USPS would do away with the tremendous amount of bulk/junk mail it handles. I'm tired of it and my shredder is too. If the USPS would raise the postage rates on the bulk/junk mail, less companies would send it out, and those that continue would be paying their fair share for that bulk/junk "mail" to be handled/delivered.

I think that's what the major issue with the USPS is. Spending so much of their resources on handling/delivering bulk/junk mail at a fraction of the cost it takes to do so, and the Amazon box delivering. In my area, the USPS works 7 days a week, with Sunday being strictly designated the Amazon handle/delivery day.

Bulk junk mail pays the bills. Packages are what take up the resources especially Amazon ones where they pay something like 1/3rd of the price we would

In out area the last couple of months, we don't get 1st class deliveries during the week and then it all comes on Sunday. Not every week but more than not!

This is just crazy? (Likely one of the most common phrases of 2020). Usually, my packages arrive late. Sometimes, delivered to the wrong address. This time, I get a notification that my package is out for delivery today. Crazy because it actually arrived last Saturday. The USPS "Informed Delivery" app is only somewhat useful and less than accurate. Still better then "dead air" and no answers.

setting aside the disappointing nature of the post, the substance of the post is completely false.

to help you discover the factual nature, read the usps committee hearings and budget planning in the congressional record and the usps ig proceedings, as far back as 2 -1/2 years ago, concerning budgeting and maintenance schedules. it is public record and can be read on-line.

i don't have a dog in any candidate fight and don't care, but participating in spreading misinformation is of no help to anybody.

And especially don't quote it, as it'll make more work for whatever mod eventually comes by to clean it up.

@Ken Thomson (and @masterswimmer), you can save the mods some trouble by editing these posts now. Regardless of what you think of the topic, politics isn't allowed here.

On a post office-related note, I think this is the first year in many years that I didn't have coins (sale or purchase) to send or receive in the mail at THIS time of the year.

    No worries feel good!

Well this one has taken a ride. From my little past office in Weare, NH it went to the hub in nashua for days before it went to Memphis on its way to Florida. After a few days there it went to Oxford Mississippi. One hour closer but still 7 hours away. I looked later and on to Mobile Alabama and finally to Pensacola Fl. After 2 weeks. It MIGHT if I'm lucky be on its way to "arrival at unit" fingers crossed here. Screenshot_20210101-070341_USPS Mobile.jpg Screenshot_20210101-070349_USPS Mobile.jpg

Ok I'm a little nervous. According to my USPS app the gift was delivered to my door 12/31 however my mail hold request started on 12/30 and another package that was to be delivered that same day is marked as being held at post office.
