my sad coins Sorry I haven't played in a while. I am busy trying to input all the coins I own into Quickbooks for tax time. Besides after seeing Lee's coins my look a little sad.
Sorry- I couldn't help it Here's a few more a little out of order. I never followed rules very well as some can tell by now.
We all purchase the nicest coins we can. I sold my home a few years back and put some of that into coins. Don't have that ability now. Every coin I've seen here is a great example for what it is!!
Where do you get your coins? I can't believe what you have for being a collector only since 2006. I'm embarrassed to say how long it's taken me to get to this point. LOL
So that's what the difference looks like! I have to say, very good, Bad (little pun intended ). PS: Didn't mean to go backwards, out of order, whatever, here...just didn't see Thad's reply until now. PPS: I was just going off a worn '28-S, Large-S, I still have a pic of (gave the coin away to one of the kids). I guess the wear flattened out the mint mark some? Just for the heck of it, here's a close-up:
I'd like to take this up in a separate thread. I posted my large and small on a well-known Lincoln forum and was told both of mine are small S. However, I beg to differ with that opinion as nobody on that site had apparently ever seen a BU large S. From the pictures and in-hand, you can clearly see the S is MUCH larger! It doesn't have the broadened and fat looking S of the coin you posted, but it's obviously much larger than the coin I have that is a small S BU. How about starting a 1928-S large and small thread. I'd like to hear others opinions on the matter! Does anyone have a BU large S for us to look at? Mine is the ONLY example I can find. It's complicated by the lameness of ALL the TPG's who never differentiate the large and small on their slabs. I've discussed this with Chuck Daughtrey, he's a huge fan of the 28-S large dates too. Based on his and others obversvations, only about 1 in 30 or 40 1928's are large date, perhaps less. With a total mintage of 17,266,000, this puts the large mintage at about 431,650.....LESS THAN THE 1909-S VDB!
Heritage has 4 of the large "S"'s listed. You can use them as a starter. http://coins.ha.com/common/search_r...ll&Ns=&Ntt=1928-s+large&x=0&y=0&Ntk=SI_Titles
Except for the first picture, which clearly shows the "fatter" S, the others are too small. We need a new thread for discussion, I'd like to dig deeper into this.
Unless I am a very lucky person, 1 in 30-40 is incorrect, I would guess about 2-3 per roll, or about 5%. My experience is based on a guess of 20-30 rolls of this solid date/mm combo that I have searched.
