Oh sure.....but I just think compared to 99.99% of our designs, it's clearly better. You can always quibble over "the best" and other stuff....like you said, everyone gets to have their own opinion. I don't think, however, that collectors say the 197 HR Saint is the nicest because others say so. I think it's their honest opinions. And folks without too many reference points may default to it.
That's funny because Teddy Roosevelt said it looked like a grilled squab !! Much prefer the eagle on the Saint. Much more majestic....powerful looking......artistic.
I don't have a lot of the coins listed because I didn't start collecting until 2005. When my father passed in 1996 he left his coin collection to my brother and me, but my mother didn't want to start giving out this coin collection. When she passed in 2004, my sisters got an attorney to disburse the things in their will. When I finally got my share of the coin collection, I fell in love. I was lucky enough to find an agent to tell me what I had. After that, I bought my first Red Book and joined ANA. Thanks to Coin Talk, ANA, NGC, and PCGS, I learned a great deal about coins. My first purchase was the MMIX Ultra High Relief $20 Gold Coin that my dealer had purchased from a man that had it graded and it came back MS68 and he didn't like it so he sold it. I bought it for $1,300. I have bought many coins since 2005, but even though my MMIX is only graded at MS68, it is still my favorite.
I was just saying that at least my coin that tarnished from being in a gun safe was only a Silver Eagle rather than something like a semi-key date Morgan Dollar.
Awesome pick! Very plain yet cool design. Sometimes clutter is a bad thing when there is so much to look at but this one doesn’t have all of that junk. Just a simple Eagle with lettering.
Nice! Any pics of the reverse? That’s where I think SLQ really shine! Especially if they still have full luster.
My favorite is the SLQ but a St. Gaudens 20 dollar gold piece is a close second. Also love the Mercury Dime and WLH.
