I would appreciate some help in identifying this coin.

On the obverse the text on the rim reads:

    FRIDERICUS D : G : D S(?) : E : N/H(?) : P(?)

The text on reverse side reads:

    Center: XVI REIS DA

Rim: VIRTV GLORIA MERC 6Z3 :

The denomination, 16 Reis, makes me think of Portugal, but the name, Fridericus, sounds german.

Thank you very much in advance :smile

I will e-mail the pictures to someone. Knowing this person as I do, I should have a reply in about two weeks.

Yes, I think you found it, or at least a coin very similar. But there´s some differences. The center of my coins reverse side reads XVI REIS DA *dott*, on the coin you found, it reads XVI REIS DAL *dott* I dont know if that means anything? But thank you very much, now at least I have an idea of what it is.
