stainless , I really don't think it has been dipped , has some pretty good cartwheel under toning !! Just a pain in the butt to capture , she looks way better in hand !! But I could be dead wrong !! Thanks for your input though , i appreciate it !!
You're on the right track with the photos but (as is usually the case) there is room for improvement. Your photos are too dark. You need more light on the coins. As Freaky pointed out, the hot spots are distracting. Try diffusing the light a bit by shining the light through a lamp shade, thin cloth, a sheet of velum, etc. Also, make sure you get the proper exposure. If you don't have enough light on the coin your camera should compensate by either opening up the lens aperture or using a longer exposure time. You might experiment with bracketing - take 3 shots (or more if you wish), one the "correct" exposure, one 1/2 stop overexposed and one 1/2 stop underexposed. From those shots one should be closer to the best exposure. I'm still working on my coin photography skills. Lighting is the hardest part to get right. And the right lighting for a silver coin may not even be close for a gold or copper coin.
I think your first photos are darn good. If you don't have a photo editing A free and simple one is photoscape.org I like the round crop for coins.
I think the pics are prety good. Your first attempts are better than most of my pics Ive been attempting for a few years. My biggest trouble is lighting. Most artificial lighting gives the coins funny colors and waiting for the sun to be at the proper angel is not a real good option. I'm leary of grading UNC coins from pics, but that '58 Washington looks great, ms64 maybe.
