A decent 1931 Bust Half Dollar. Just 5,873,660 minted, less surviving. The edge is lettered "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR".
1831 arrived yesterday so I thought I'd share. The seller photos were blurry, and I "accidently" won it. XF details Bust Half for $40.. some of us are on budgets.
Shame about those holes but I do love a good Bust Half Dollar. Glad I added those last two words. Lol
A word of caution. When you buy holed coins, buy them cheaply. Among collectors, a hole is one of the most serious defects. It's worse than scratches, rim bumps and even corrosion. Holed coins are okay as fillers, but try to avoid major financial commitments on them. Even when the coins are repaired, which is expensive if it's done well, the coins still sell at deep discounts.
That's exactly why people buy them. Personally I would rather have an AU details coin that's got a hole in it than one that's VG and doesn't.
Who in the heck would put a hole in a perfectly nice coin, stupid is what stupid does! To each their own. I have no interest in holed coins, tokens, or medallions of any kind. My opinion only...
People have always put holes in coins to wear as jewelry. Slaves who weren't allowed to have money would drill holes in coins and hide them in their clothing. At one point the price of Roofing washers cost more than a penny a piece so people would use old large cents and 1/2 cents as washers. Most holed coins didn't get that way just for the fun of it.
I have a friend who put together a Type Set of holed Coins. Was harder than he thought it would be to find true holed coins because there are those of us who say, Jefferson Nickel.. Drill it and it only cost ya 5 cents. He was on a mission and had a blast putting it together. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
