Collecting? Tesserae and lead tokens of ancient Greece and Rome. Contemporary imitations and counterfeits of Roman coins. A little Roman provincial Egypt, too. For study? Both of the above, I wrote a huge paper on the counterfeits and am preparing an even larger one on tesserae, which will hopefully turn into a book. I'm also beginning to read more about the coinage of Carausius, maybe to write an article, and the DIVO series struck under Trajan Decius.
I wouldn't say I specialize in anything, but I'm partial to Proof Set flat packs, lol. And I enjoy purple, blue, and red toned coins very much otherwise, I'd say I like all American Coinage and Paper Money
I too do not know enough to specialize. I got into coins via hoarding junk silver and bullion, fell in love with the designs and the history. I love the US designs of 1913-1921. I also am interested in WWII expedient coinage. I like to ponder where my circulated Morgans have been. As I learn more, I would like to begin getting into pre-Civil War coinage, especially the halves and large cents. Thalers from the various German states also fascinate me, though I do not own one yet. Too many US coins to get first.
you'll never be more than a coin foundler if you ask any decent archaeologist... Been to Germany lately?
They sing a different tune when the dating of a whole stratigraphic layer depends on a handful of coins.
I am not a specialist in anything (numismatically i mean), but the areas that i love and focus on are: - Early U.S coins, specially large cents 1793-1807, and now increasingly Capped Bust dimes and quarters. - Roman imperial coins of the 1st and 2nd century (Augustus to Septimius Severus) - Spanish Colonial coins, specially those from the Santiago mint. - German States coinage of the Napoleonic era, specially minor coins (Kreuzer, groschen) Eduard
someone has to protect you guys from GD and of course i was the only member standing in that now famous contest.
Colonials in general, Connecticuts and Rosa Americanas in particular right now but that changes from time to time!
I really love collecting Jefferson nickels. But, I am really enjoying learning about Indian Head cents and Peace Dollars.
Just wait. Let me explain the phases of silverology: You like blast white coins You like mildy toned coins Then you end up like Lehigh96.
I wish, the multiple ducat collection would be beyond the means of most in the hobby. I was trying to put together a date set of the Netherlands ducat 1586 to present date. No one has ever accomplished it, but I know of no one who ever came closer than me. And I only got a quarter of the way there before I stopped collecting.
I am far from a specialist, but my passion is for three cent nickels, 1875 and up, and morgan dollars. With morgans, it's all about dates and mintmarks, I haven't ventured into VAM,s yet, but I did pick up a few varieties like the hotlips and O over CC.
