I bought 30 mercury dimes for $5.00 on craigslist. I tried to give this older woman much more cash but she refused to take it and told me to enjoy them. She also told me that she have other older coins but have to find them and when she do she'll give me a call.

Did I get a pretty good deal?

a collector's coin is worth what joy it brings to its owner...:) and if you are really being calculative.. 5$ is better spend on coins than say soda and fastfood :).. just an opionion of a newbie

YES, you got a good deal. You got them for a fraction of their silver value - somewhere around 1/6 of their silver value. If the coins have any numismatic value you came out even better.

I would seriously try again to give her some more money. This is just not right (unless she is your grandmother or something).

I would have to say yes you got a good deal.

Did any of you read Numismatic News back in January. A collector wrote in and bragged about how he got an 1893-S Morgan from a dealer for $8 and sold it for $3100. What happened was the dealer was selling Cull Morgans at $8 a piece and the 1893-S got in there by mistake. The collector took the coin back to the dealer, said it was a gift from his grandfather and the dealer offered like $1500 for it. He then sold it to someone for $3100 and bought his wife a car with the proceeds. What a crook!

Utterly fantastic. The worst ones I've seen even at a flea market sell for #1 each. And those are really normal dates and usually beat and worn.
And she said she has more older coins. Your really doing well.:thumb::thumb:
So who pays for the postage?:D:D
Check out the dates and mint marks well. Note to be carefull of the 1942's. Some are 42/41 meaning there is a 42 over a 41 date. Both the Phily and the Denver ones. Carefull of the 45 S since there is a large and small mint mark. Same with some of the others.
If any are 1916D, I'll give you $5 for that one.

Dano is probably young(ish) and she wanted to help him with his collection, without biting into his budget too hard. ;)

Ask her if she would like to adopt a toad? :D

    Ribbit :)
