This final round of Penny Luster Giveaway #1 will be ending tomorrow, but I will be doing two drawings, since my own LordM Giveaway #50 on the Ancients forum will also be ending tomorrow, in celebration of Saturnalia.

So be sure to sign up for that one if you haven't already. Assuming you want a chance at a free ancient or medieval coin, of course. ;)

Normally I would pass the chance to buy one but I really want to start an ancient coin collection and I only have 3 cheap ones $5 or less

Smokey.jpg I really, really want these! This contest has been so much fun, and is an amazing display of generosity - appropriate for Christmas. Thanks Claire and L.M. One last cartoon. (I was running out of cartoons.)

Another proof to show off its beauty. If anyone knows about Liberia, is that it is such a dangerous place. Lot of civil war.

Sorry to torture you with my awful image adaptations, but I tell you, I had fun. I learned that I am less than incompetent with this MS Paint stuff.

    I love pre-Euro coins!

Story of my life, I saw a small set of Czechoslovakian coins on EBay and it looked like it would be easily winnable. Of course, I went to sleep and forgot to bid :)

First, thank you @Penny Luster for your generosity and @lordmarcovan for your great support (and nice pictures). Also, a big thanks for all the participants; I have really enjoyed the stories, pictures, jokes and cartoons (some of them I have shared with friends and family). This has been great fun.

Our family thinks that Christmas decorations definitely fit the “cheerful” category, so my last picture is from the mantle in the living room. The angel band was my mom’s and is one of the first decorations my wife sets up each December. The pelican is there all the year, but seems to like the music.

    Nice. I like those.

    Speaking of Liberia, and proofs...

I'm proud to say that until last year I owned the finest-certified proof example of Liberia's first coin: the 1847 cent. It was one of my better coins. @kazuma78 owns it now.

PCGS PR65 BN; population 1 as of December 2020- none higher

(Looking at the auction records, it appears that there was one higher- a PCGS PR66 BN- which sold for $1,920 at Heritage in 2017. I'm not sure why that one no longer shows up in the population, leaving this one the reigning example. I got this one for about a quarter of the price that the 66 BN went for, which is a bargain, considering there's only one grade point difference.)

The mirrors are a bit more subtle on early 19th century proofs than you see with modern ones.

That is NICE. Very beautiful piece. The palm tree reminds me of this one.

Yes, they continued with the palm tree motif in later years. I quite like it. Paired with an elephant, as seen on your coin, it's an unbeatable combination, I think. I like the sailing ship, too. Note that it's a steamboat on the 1847 cent.

PS- I wonder what the bird is carrying on your coin? Looks like a document or scroll of some kind.
