Nice one. I like the 21 S's in general. One of my favorite years.

I like the wood grain cents... didn't even know they existed until I saw one posted by Jack on this thread.

That rainbow toned '58 is very beautiful.

No worries, my Lincolns don't hold a candle to Leeg's.

Leeg, I cannot figure out where you are buying these. I never seen Lincolns with this kind of toning, on any regular basis. How long have you been collecting Lincolns? All of yours have unusually nice, similar type toning.

This is a mint set toner, you will see them quite frequently with these colors. Lee takes some excellent pics as well, and has a very " famous " set of Lincolns with color. Those on the PCGS boards know him well, the starter of the " Copper for the Weekend " threads.........

THanks AJ, haven't posted there yet though I do lurk over there once in a while. Too many sites to post on. I have got to have a LIFE!Wondering, why a minst set would cause these colors if anyone knows or you do AJ?

It was the original mint packaging that causes the toning. You will see all coins in all denominations with that 50's mint set look. Unfortunatly, they have been for the most part cherrypicked and seperated, but every now and then you'll run acros a set intact and toned beautifully, and if not ripped, they trade at huge premiums.

I just spent close to an hour going thru this thread from post #1....every pic and every post, WOW, what a great thread, prolly my fav on CoinTalk.

You cointalkers can be really proud, there are some really great coins here and some great folks as well. I like to see the excitment and awe value. The lowly cent can stir emotions and wonderment in everybody, and to me, thats what this hobby is about, regardless of budget. There is something for everybody here.

    Kudo's gang, well done !!

Too many sources to list plus some super contacts on the NGC and PCGS Coin Forums. :p I've been collecting the Lincoln Cents since 2006. The name of my set is Lee's Colorful Lincolns. The paper the mint used for the 50's Mint Set's was heavy in sulfur which caused the toning you see:

Thanks for posting this Leeg. Awesome. I have never seen one of these earlier mint sets. I want one of those old cardboards so I can tone my coins!!

A 1957 Mint Set with nice coins will run around $250.

Picked up this piece from Michael Printz at Larry Whitlow in May of 2007:

No ya don't. The majority turned out ugly, black, brown, dark grey, spotchy and mottled. Duplicating the conditions that resulted in the appealing toning on some of these sets is all but impossible.

True statement. Can't duplicate what it has taken nature 50+ years to do. :)
