I get that. It was only £60 and your notes were worth way more. Im just wondering if you’re going to be expected to return the check uncashed? Because they did pay you an insulting £60 for losing your package but in the end they found it so they might want their money back. Afterall it is taxpayer money (I think? I know USPS runs on tax dollars but idk about the UK postal system).
They are welcome to the £60 as couldn't care less about it.....will contact them and say cancel the cheque.....
Eh I would wait for them to ask. If they do you should tell them you’re going to keep the £60 as a “Late Fee” with interest.
Perhaps the cheque could be cashed and the £60 given to charity? Doing so may help to bring a small bit of consolation to the stress that has been needlessly incurred.
The package has arrived at the pick-up point. If the notes all arrive safely and in same condition despatched, I will make a charitable donation.
Personally, if the package finally arrived at the destination, I would not cash or deposit the check. If the mail service has record of delivery, at an extreme, it could be considered insurance fraud.
I have contact with the lead 'investigator' and she did not mention the cheque and she knows it's arrived.......as they essentially lost it for over 2 months.....I can't see the 'insurance fraud' having any credence.
Pray that it doesn't go through Cleveland to get to you. I saw a story about stacks and stacks of undelivered mail in boxes upon boxes at the Cleveland post office facility at Hopkins Airport. My wife has a medicine shipment from Virginia that is THREE WEEKS LATE and is likely hung up there. I did file a complaint via the tracking number. No word yet but they did acknowledge the complaint at least.
My notes have already arrived.....just don't know if all there and intact yet......sorry to hear your story.
Glad to hear your debacle is at least 50% resolved. You still need to receive the graded notes for a completed transaction. If you'd have cashed the check immediately upon receiving it I would agree, no credence to insurance fraud. Cashing the check after you were notified by tracking that the package was received intact is another matter entirely. I wouldn't cash the check. That would now be dishonest.
I still do not know if the notes were damaged on their 10 week journey.....and it turned out to be $6,000 or notes, not $5,000 as I recalled. 6 notes have been logged on my PMG account. But not gone green yet, to see what they have.....
How did the story end? Have photos of the notes graded? I would consider the check numismatic and put it in a sleeve and keep it and a letter explaining it's and the notes history. Provenance.
A happy ending on this one..........have had both notes and coins lost/stolen......previously so I use Parcelforce Global Priority now and they arrive in about 4 days from the UK. Using Royal Mail is not an option as compensation is derisory.
