thanks I've had this thing since at least 1989 or 90 and forgot all about it till someone brought money up this evening, so I dug it out - back then I couldn't scan it, didn't even have a computer til 93, time sure flies, anyway, I thought I'd see if this thing could even be real - I almost spent it back then and thought it looked so strange I should just hang onto it.
possible obstruction error (a piece of paper got stuck on top of the note during the printing process) If real, $30-$50 range
It could be a broad break. By the size of the missing impression it may be classified as a moderate broad break. A broad break refers to a partially broken impression cylinder. The price is F 50, EF 100 and CU 150 according to my catalog. Lou
nice notes! anytime i see an 1988A note, my eyes automatically go to the 'web-note' checks lol... imagine if this was a web-note.. wow... i digres
not sure what a partially broken impression cylinder is and I don't understand what F EF and CU mean thanks
Here is a decent site explaining a web note Hope it helps, if not, feel free to ask questions. from that site
This is interesting... judging from the example on the link you sent this is not a web press note - but I'm going to start looking for them now! This whole adventure made me start looking at my money a little closer, but so much of what I get these days is the new money, are there flaws in the new notes as well?
not as many, at least none that catch on ... there are currency error books as well as coin error books. But coin collecting is more popular, so you have more books dedicated to it. The Standard Guide to Small Size U. S. Paper Money 1928 to Date lists alot of the currency varieties like web notes, mule notes and the like. For true errors, you would have to find books dedicated to that subject. Unlike coins, if you have an error during printing, the whole sheet is replaced and that ends the chance of the error hitting the street. With coins, a hundred thousand coins could make it out before the error is noticed. So currency errors dont pop up as often, and once they do pop up in circulation, they are alot more noticeable then with coins. Alot of times, you have to look directly at the coin looking for 'something' to see an error. Currency errors alot of times just jump out at you. happy hunting
