One of my favorite notes of all time is the Woodchopper note. It has a great theme with the woodchopper and a dog. Another favorite note is the $3 obsolete note from the Somerset and Worcester Bank of Maryland dated 1862

My $100,000,000,000, yup, one hundred billion dollar note from Zimbabwe. It is the largest denomination ever put on any currency ever in the history of the world.

Um...no. Zimbabwe's already up into the trillions, but the record is still held by Hungary's 100 million billion pengo. That's an old-style European billion, with twelve zeroes rather than the modern nine, so the full denomination of the Hungarian note would be 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 pengo: twenty zeroes total.

Some collectors don't like to count the Hungary hyperinflation notes because they only have the denomination printed in words--they don't show all the zeroes written out. If you insist on actually seeing the numeral, then the recent Zimbabwe issues are the record-holders; last I heard they were up to 100 trillion (100,000,000,000,000, fourteen zeroes).

My favorite is either the woodchopper or the 1899 $5 silver certificate with the indian chief on it.

Hungary definitely still holds the record for the largest nominal denomination ever on a bill (the highest released, in short form, is 10 quintillion pengo; a note 10 times that even was printed, but never released).

Before Zimbabwe's recent period of hyperinflation beat the record, the most zeroes on a note (Hungary just used words to spell out the denomination; the digits weren't printed out) was Yugoslavia's 500 billion dinar note in 1993, with 11 zeroes.

But Zimbabwe recently beat that with its 10 trillion dollar note (13 zeroes). 20, 50, and 100 trillion dollar notes were planned, but they may end up not getting released, since about 2 weeks ago they renumerated the Zimbabwe dollar a fourth time. The 4th Zimbabwe dollar equals 1 quadrillion of the 3rd Zimbabwe dollar (meaning that 10 trillion dollar note is now the equivalent of the 4th Zimbabwe cent!).

(Edit: 20, 50, and 100 trillion dollar notes were indeed printed; you can find several on eBay. Currently, with 14 zeroes, Zimbabwe's 100 trillion dollar note holds the "most number of zeroes on a note" record. Stay tuned, I'm sure they'll beat their own record eventually.)

Zimbabwe is probably going to set new records (may eventually give Hungary some competition, at this rate), considering their inflation rate is now in the sextillion % range by some estimates. As they have few domestic goods for sale, and the black market rate shows the Zimbabwe dollar as worth much less than the official rate, precise figures are hard to calculate. Most transactions in Zimbabwe are conducted in US dollars or South African rand, or just barter.

It doesn't take much for me to have a favorite note, :goofer: That collection is fairly limited.

I just picked one of those up at FUN, snaz. Not as good condition though. Mine is probably G or VG at best. I do like that note though

Oh yeh? What signatures? I'm thinking this would be fun to get all 4 varietys.
It would relatively low cost and it would give me a feeling of accomplishment once I get all four, haha
Seeing as how my sets aren't going to be done anytime soon.
