Okay this one is a tough one to find. Still this is my second example. Very happy to add this one to my trays.

Here is one I already had.

The first one wasn't that bad but I can see why you got the new one. Both are nice coins as a whole.

I highly congratulate you for upgrading from fine to XFine condition, or from XF choice to MS or uncirculated. Personally, I try to upgrade from bad to good. I had a coin from Nisibia in Mesopotamia with a corroded bust. I upgraded to another one from Nisibia as well, with a much better bust. No matter if the 2 Emperors are father and son. PHILIP.

The only upgrade I can think of in which I've replaced a coin with another example of the same type (although a different mint), rather than simply adding an example of a different type from the same emperor that's in better condition, is this Julian II double maiorina with a bull on the reverse:

SOLD detail Julian II RIC 313 Arles (bull with 2 stars, wreath).jpg

Which I liked OK (it didn't photograph very well), but upgraded by replacing it with this one:

As a general policy, I try not to buy anything that I will ever want to upgrade, but several years ago I bought this very high grade anonymous denarius as Crawford 53/2, only to later find that it was not fully anonymous but actually a crescent symbol Crawford 57/1 that had been struck off-center with the reverse crescent symbol mostly off flan. I recently upgraded to a more representative example, albeit somewhat lower grade. To me it's an upgrade because the centering is more important than a little wear. 57-2-M.jpg

    Great upgrade, Andrew.

LOL, I STILL want to slap that snarky smirk off his face, though! :)

I have a conundrum... I really never consciously upgrade. Most of my duplicates are just that... dupes. Some, cuz I like the coins that I dupe-purchase. MOST of my dupes are cuz I ooooops... forgot I had one! I did that 3 or 4 times with a Trishekel!

I wish I could take credit for the saying, but wasn't me. Still, I fully understand the sentiment.
