No doupt your expertise in world gold and coins in general is an asset to the memembership here.
Over the years your collection has amazed us.
My point in the up and coming article is do we remove the blinders of buying a detailed coin, to satisfy our need to fill a hole? Do we buy it... to preserve the variety,or coins rareness?
Do we obsess over others placing a grade or value on said specimen? Or do we enjoy that moment in time ...that spect of time that we own a real piece of numismatic history.

Daughter was hanging in Toronto during an apprenticeship and snagged my Canadian coin jug for tip money and burgers. Laughed our butts off. Don’t own a Canadian book. Shit happens

Lots of banter on here but I'll attempt to answer from my own perspective. I purchased this 1947 50c Maple Leaf Curved Right as a 60th birthday present to myself. I don't know if it quite ranks up there with the 1921 5c, since it's a variety. But the reputed mintage is around 200 in both circulation and specimen. As a kid, I became fascinated with the story of the 1947 ML coins, largely because I received several of them from my grandfather, and became aware of the curved right 7 50c as a rarity. I dreamed of owning one off and on for a very long time. The MS version was always out of reach (and rarely appears). This one came up at auction as a Specimen, UNC Details Cleaned. So I bought it "just to have one", and for the "details" grade probably paid too much. However, when it arrived I was quite pleased. I don't care if somebody else called it "cleaned", to me it's a spectacular coin. Often I convince myself that PCGS blew it on the "details", and I think about resubmitting it, but most of the time I don't really care. I have it, and am enjoying the moment in time, as you say. I think the purchaser of your 1921 example might not care either, it's "just to have one".

I do appreciate your take on thix thread...yes it did get a little crazy but staying on topic ...I wasnt in the market for the 21 Canadian 5 cent silver....but used it a another cornor stone in a thread i did post here. You see my article was written about buying a detailed coin, and excepting it for what it is.
I do realize that yeah in Canada things in the numismatic world are viewed differently.
Not that's bad....just difference of opinions.
But this thread as well as my aritical is just that food for thought.

    Link?
I was thinking it might be interesting to ask what other coins people would purchase in "details" grades. For example Canada 1948 dollars still bring strong prices with various problems.
