    HI all,

I have two Lincolns that I would like some opinions on. I am interested in grade thoughts and what the spot on each coin my do to the grade, specifically from a PCGS point of view. You can click on the coin picture to enlarge it.

    Thanks

    Nice coins!!!
Unfortunately copper has a nasty habit of getting "carbon" spots if anything gets on them.
And "carbon" spots always stick out like a sore thumb.
The surfaces appear to be original.
My Guess: You'll lose a point in the grade, but MS-64 (definitely) and MS-65 (probably) is what you'll end up with.
I don't think they'll bb them just because of the spots.

29-D Is that coin red or red/brown? I cannot tell for sure from your pics. Probably a 64, but might even be a 63. Spot free, it is a solid 64 with a shot at 65.

19- I would call that coin 64. On this one, I don't think the spot is large enough to affect the grade too much.

    Both beautiful coins!

I don't understand why Lincoln collectors get up in arms about carbon spots. They are just a fact we have to live with and, believe it or not, I actually like a few small spots. Why? It shows the coins originality! So many Lincolns have been cleaned and dipped it's refreshing for me to see original surfaces and a couple flecks.

I'm gonna agree with the 64-65 assesment here. Have you thought about going thru NCS first then NGC?

Both should go a 64 RD, nice coins, and that 29-D is a screamer strike wise, wow.

You think PCGS detracts for spots? Look at the 64RD, yes it is my coin, and yes, I paid too much, luckily I totally ripped one from same auction and will just flip the costs to each other.

Dick, didn;t you just have a 29-D lowgrade at PCGS that tossed both of us? We were both expecting a sweetie but they banged it hard?

Do you know when the spots developed? Were they there when slabbed or did hey develop after it was slabbed?

Thanks for your responses. I was thinking MS64 RD due to the spots, and unfortunately, maybe RB. Otherwise they are fairly nick/scratch free.

rlm asked about color. The color is a deep red, not yet brown though, but not close to bright red. I have several MS66 wheat lincolns and they are all brighter in color than these two, but then at one time I had a ms65 1909 VDB RED that seems MUCH darker than these two.

bsshog40, I had not yet given much thought about ncs

If I submit them, I will post the results.

    Thanks
