Gentlemen, there is enough negativity in the world this year that we don’t need to add any to our Saturnalia thread. TypeCoin has been a good citizen on past Saturnalia’s and I’m sure he will get his gift out in time this year as well. Ryro’s humor and generosity are well known and are a credit to the forum. I have a feeling everything will work out just fine and we can close out 2020 on a numismatic high note. Io Saturnalia!
In the spirit for which this thread is intended, here is that lovely coin which mysteriously showed up on my doorstep two weeks ago (forgive the hasty phone photos - a real one will come over the winter break): England Edward III, r. 1327-1377 (1356) London Mint, AR Fourth Coinage, Type F Groat, 26.23 mm x 4.18 grams Obv.: ♚EDWARD D G REX ANGL Z FRANC D HYB. Crowned bust facing within a treasure of arches Rev.: ♚POSVI | DEVMºA | DIVTOR | EMºMEV outside, CIVI | TAS | LON | DON inside, long cross pattée dividing the legends, three pellets in each angle Ref.: North 1174, SCBC 1569 Note: Found in East Anglia the generosity of this forum is amazing, and I’m embarrassed to say that I think I have been on the receiving end moreso than the giving end. Thank you for the above (I know who it is, but will let him reveal himself if he chooses), and for the other donations to my class or other mysterious coins that have come my way. You all are amazing.
Maybe I am trying to work on keeping a positive tone in my writing. You are making that very difficult with all these accusations
I sent my gift out last monday, hopefully my giftee got it by Friday. Its fun to give to gift of coins.
I will re-join at a time I am able to visit a Post Office. Sad to miss it for a second year, but waiting for you all to post after 17th.
I am glad I read the rest of the thread...I recieved my gift today, i know from the sender thats its the SS, but are we to wait till the 17th to open?
The USPS has a schedule/arrange pickup option through their website that I use to guarantee something is picked up at home without needing to go to the local PO (you can chose the normal time the mail carrier comes by or arrange a specific hour for a fee, specify the size+shipping option it is, etc.). Haven’t had to go to the PO since the pandemic began. Does the UK postal service have something similar?
Saturnalia was held in Ancient Rome from Dec. 17 through Dec. 23 and so most participants wait until at least the 17th to open their gifts. Some wait a bit longer till Christmas. Starting on the 17th you will start to see people posting photos of their gifts to this thread. It’s always great fun.
I just wanted to inform whomever sent a gift to me, @hotwheelsearl, I received it today! It's a heavy box filled with treasures only Saturn knows. I was so tempted to open it that I literally gave it to my father for safekeeping until Dec 25th. Thank you, kind sir!
I bought a gift I put a good deal of thought into, and then a package came knocking on my door. Now I am super saddened that I delayed so long
Just a quick thread bump to get this to the front page as we are about a week away!! Would reduce stress if those who received their packages posted the fact.. the package I shipped should have arrived by now - so a little worried!!!
The one I sent should have been in the recipient's hands at least two or three weeks ago. I too am worried that it may have gotten lost in our stellar USPS mail system.
I have 3 coins that were supposed to arrive a month ago, got 2 out of 3 refunds today. Needless to say, I am pretty peeved. And this was before the holiday rush. I never buy coins this time of year, hence the lack of new posts from me. Owell.
I have been getting notices from auction houses where I have won lots and paid for back in eairly October asking if I have recieved items. I have recieved items as far as the Ukraine and norway that I won less than a month ago. I am not sure whats going on but I got 6 orders from october I haven recieved and they were the best coins and great winning bids. Sucks for sure.
