just wanted to get some thoughts on the Lincoln dollar. I think it looks great, and am definitely buying one. The only thing that is getting to me is the $$$$. They are asking $38 for the proof. Thought it was a bit high, but I guess since it's the man's 200th birthday it could have been worse.

That's the goin' rate for these coinnewbie01, and that's the introductory price.

One other thing....the mint states a limit of 100 units per household so everybody has a fair shot at ordering these coins. Who the heck are they kiddin'? The dealers are going to have a field day, and if these coins do indeed become popular with the general public, the aftermarket will go through the roof.

Is this a US Mint coin ? I have searched the Mint site and the only Lincoln coin I find is a 3" Bronze coin for $ 38.00.

What is the link to the silver $ coin you mention ?

500,000 is a large mintage. It probably will not sell out.

I agree that it's pretty expensive. I'll probably pick one up down the road.

I think a few rolls of each new lincoln cent would be a better purchase.

$35 to $40 has been about the going rate for silver dollar commemoratives for quite a while now, and seems reasonable to me. This one's probably going to sell fast if the mintage isn't high... I'm hoping I can just get it straight from the Mint, but if you have to get it secondary market, expect to pay a bit more! I ended up paying about $50 for the USMC dollar as I recall.

P.S. Total mintage limit on this one will be 500,000 (sum total of all uncirculated and proof). And if you don't buy it the first day, they jack up the price another $4 tomorrow (if there's any left!), so get yours quick if you can.

I don't get paid until tomorrow. I hope there's still some left then! I imagine this one will be a pretty good seller.

People have been crying about the shortage of planchets for sometime now. Even with a maximum mintage of 500k, I wonder if this could ultimately effect the number actually minted

I'm wondering the same thing. Hoping they don't do that max.

Congrats:hail: I actually really like the design of the coin. Can't wait to see it in hand.

Hope you battened down the hatches there. Sure is windy in NY. Heading up there tomorrow.

Got one of each. I was set as much as I could be at 12:00 on the mint site. It took 27 minutes to complete the order. Actually, I was planning on it taking longer than that.
