The coin is outstanding. No plastic would add value to a knowledgeable collector. Buy the coin is right on here.
Calling them won’t do much. PCGS gave an opinion and they aren’t likely to change it based on someone complaining (if they made a habit of doing that, it would get way out of hand). Cracking and resubmitting is the best option (maybe not right away) if the intention is to sell. Deciding who to send it to (NGC or PCGS) is something else that will need to be decided. If it’s a keeper, then just enjoy it as is and wait until it’s time to sell before resubmitting. It’s not ideal, but the TPGs make us play the game. They need to build up the revenues. Us knowledgeable collectors can see the beauty of the coin, but the market will price it much lower as raw (too many people that will wonder why it is raw).
I think there’s only one option for you right now: submit to a different grading company. It’s a beautiful coin with original toning and it would only bug you to keep it in a QT holder any longer.
Beautiful looking coin. If you look at the major auctions you'll see other coins looking like this and they're straight graded.
I feel your frustrations. My last submission had a lot come back cleaned. It was like that was the reason for the day to kick coins back from this TPG. nice coin I too am in the NT boat even before I read the thread.
I’m not sure why PCGS graded this QT because it has the same secondary toning as thousands of other coins that they have straight graded in the past. Part of me wishes that they would frown more on the Blue/brown secondary toning that forms on dipped coins when placed in an album, but I’d settle for them just being consistent, and in that regard, this coin belongs in a problem free holder.
I had a 1909 come back as QC Brown. I had Rick Snow take a look at it and he indicated he didn't see anything. Cracked and back in, straight graded MS65 Red.
But QT means it could be NT, doesn't it? Or does it mean it's AT? And if it means it's AT, why do they call it QT, why don't they call it AT? Better question. Who still cares what they think?
To me, it is total NT. I think it is a beautifully toned coin, and see nothing unusual about the toning. It should straight grade. I bet NGC would find it market acceptable. The grader had a fight with his wife over breakfast.
I am late to this one but I have no doubt it is NT and a lovely coin that I would love to have. Just pop it into a mailer to me and I'll relieve you of this burden.
