Folks, I must apologize for an unforeseen situation (which I probably should have foreseen).

Lot #5, which has proven to be the most popular piece on offer here so far (and my personal favorite of the 20 here), has to be withdrawn.

#5. Greece (Mysia, Pergamon): bronze Æ15, ca. 2nd-1st centuries BC; Asklepios / Serpent staff

Why? Simply because there was, as it happens, a sort of a prior claim on it.

You see, I had just closed my Giveaway #48 before posting this one. Giveaway #48 was a "pick your prize" giveaway, which meant the winner got a voucher with which to shop my inventory and pick his prize(s).

When I posted this giveaway, #48 was closed but I had not yet heard back from @happy_collector, who won it, about his selection(s).

(I jumped the gun a little bit when I posted this giveaway before hearing back from him.)

As luck would have it, he collects ancients, and he chose this Mysia piece. So I have to withdraw it from the prize offerings here.

(Go figure. It's been sitting in my inventory for months. Then suddenly an Ancients collector just happened to win Giveaway #48, and out of 86 coins in my inventory, he chose that one! Can't fault his taste, though.)

So, sorry to be a heartbreaker and an unintentional tease. :(

But I'll tell you what: if any of you who had selected coin #5 in this giveaway ends up winning the drawing, you'll have to pick something else, but I'll make it up to you by sweetening the pot with something extra, OK? ;)

PS- there are no other "pick your prize" giveaways pending before the drawing for this one, so that situation will not arise again- at least not in regard to the remaining 19 coins on offer here.

That is a beautiful coin and was my personal favorite, if FFIVN wasn’t choosing.
Glad to see that it went to @happy_collector. I am sure it will have a good home there :)

Hope y'all won't object to my bumping this, since it had sunk back to Page 3.

It's refreshing that we have such an active Ancients forum here where that would happen. On other forums I've frequented, Ancient coin topics often invoke crickets, tumbleweeds, and cobwebs. Seems to be the exact opposite here, which is good.

#17. Spain: "New World Pirate Era Bronze Nummis c.1400-1600 AD" [sic], in International Numismatic Bureau holder (Cited from:
I am particularly fond of some of the old Spanish coins and this one looks to be a lovely example

The coin itself is neat, but the plastic holder is rubbish. I slightly prefer the Ferdinand & Isabella piece, myself. Hard to beat for history.

I like the griffin on #1. It’s one of the few times I’ve preferred artistry over history. It is pretty historical though!

My choice, if I were to win, would be:

#7. Judaea: bronze lepton of Alexander Jannaeus, ca. 103-76 BC (the biblical "Widow's mite").

I really am fascinated by the age and name of this coin, and want to research it further.

    1. This would be an awesome birthday gift (12/15).
    2. I view all ancient coins as works of art.
    3. This would be my first time to win any drawing, ever.

Happy Holidays and Thank you for the opportunity, once again Lord M.

I would choose #13 as the start of a collection of Roman emperors.
Thanks for your generosity. Merry Christmas

    My choice is #7.
It is interesting to see what the actual Widow's Mite coin looks like, and the history behind it from the Bible account.

My choice would be #9. Roman Provincial as I don't have a Commodus yet and I like his bust. Thanks for the chance to participate in this giveaway.

This post (#56) is an entry for MJwags on Collectors Universe. I was going to do a tandem giveaway over there (another pick off this list of coins), but since there was no participation over there and MJwags was the only valid entry, I've shut down the CU version of this giveaway but am giving him a chance in this one instead.

I like #20 best. I like coins with lots of detail, I love the middle ages (although this one is slightly late for that) and, well, I am a sucker for Religious bronzes and medals.

    I'm also always Hungry as well . . . . . (what, the country, never mind, I'm still IN however) . . . . .

#8. Roman Provincial (Cappadocia, Caesarea): silver hemidrachm of Hadrian, ca. 120-121 AD

Just jumped out at me, I have no idea, but Roman history is fascinating.

Thanks for the chance for some Roman silver.

    Wow.

Also, because no one else listed it.

    :)

I'm kinda partial to #18, lots of history with that coin and its from and era and area that I am lacking in my collection
