i found a quarter that looks different than a regular one it looks kinda like silver but i do not think its silver either how can i find out what it is
You can quickly check a bunch of them by looking at the edge(the reeded part). If you don't see a copper line its silver or Canadian.
i do not think it is silver thats what i am trying to find out my cousin who collects coins told me to get on here and ask he said its clad whats that
a coin shop. Or you could wait for others on here to agree with me . See if you can take a good closeup of the edge. Use the flower setting on your cam.
Take it to a coin dealer and have him weigh it for you. Silver quarters and clad quarters do not weigh the same. Your photos are not very clear but the quarter looks like it is silver.
i matched it with a silver one that i own and they are totally different feel like dif weight and different sound
If it is a 1964 Washington Quarter then it is absolutely Silver. Nice find! Retail value on it is about $3 and wholesale is about $2 if circulated. It's the most common date silver quarter but worth much more than face value.
The silver quarter weighs 6.25 grams and the maket value is about two to three dollars depending on condition The clad quarter was reduced to 5.67 grams Jazzcoins joe
What is the date on the coin. That will clear up a lot of questions on your coin. Everything else is guesswork without the date. Thanks, Bill
From the picture it could be anything, but the OP did headline his post If it is dated 1964 it was absolutely minted sometime in the middle '60s from .900 fine silver. No need to go to a jeweler to check comparative weight - the old popsicle stick balance test will show whether it is lighter, the same, or heavier than a clad quarter. Just put a standard #2 pencil on the table, balance a popsicle stick or similar piece of wood on it, and put one quarter on each end. The heavier one will go down.
