I got this one a little later so it cost me $16.00. Not really a semi-key but definitely a tougher date to get. Only 1,569,500 minted originally. Less today a number of them have been melted. A bit of wear but the only real issue is the reverse rim ding at 9-10 o'clock. Still, a good buy.

    Nice!
Question for the experts: do all of the Peace dollars have a weak reverse strike? So not impressed with the coin's design (the eagle's details). They all seem so "mushy" and average, IMHO.

Nice for $16 !! No Problema on the reverse dinger . LOL . Can I ask ANYONE a question? Why are these struck so weakly at times ?

Not all of them. But yes it is very common to see weakly struck Peace dollars.

A lot of them are weakly struck, but if you find one with a nice strike it's a thing of beauty.

Here is the reverse of an ms66 for comparison.

I've always thought the design was the main factor for weakly struck Peace Dollars. You do see a lot of them, all dates and mintmarks included.

I have never really understood the lack of enthusiasm for the Liberty Dollar. It is a beautiful coin and I enjoy collecting them. Thanks for the post and questions. Be safe.

How about a Peace Dollar by Dan Carr! Before anyone jumps on the fake / counterfeit wagon this "Dollar" is a great example of what a Peace dollar was meant to look like. Also if you could locate a Peace dollar that was struck as nicely as this coin you would need a lot of money to buy one. Supper high grade Peace dollars are extremely rare and most collectors could never own one. So Dan Carr's version is a great alternative. May be next year if the mint does strike a 2021 Peace Dollar in high relief you may be able to buy one unless they do what they've been doing with the "special limited mintage silver eagles". Yes I do know that Peace Dollars weren't struck in 1918. This is a fantasy coin nothing more. 1918 Peace Dollar.jpg

that's a really nice coin. and you bought it for $16? wow, that was a steal. I see a lot of weak strikes mainly on the reverse. i really like the older coin designs, like the eagle on this peace dollar were all commenting on. its very majestic as if its looking over its realm. from a kid when I would sneak into my mom and dads room I would get my dads leather coin pouch that had a lot of silver dollars including the peace dollar. I would line them up all in a row and do all kind of things. that's for another day, sorry I went off into left field guys

How about a 1964 Peace Dollar. The that was then was melted. This was made by Dan Carr. Supposedly, all the originals were melted but, I've heard there are some that weren't. I believe this coin is based on a plaster cast that was found at the mint last year. 1964 D Peace Dollar Die Pair 9.jpg

I'll agree. I have many of all grades and enjoy them all. The Walkers are second on my list.
