I have a package coming from Vilnius, Lithuania and it took only 10 days to get to Jamaica, NY. Here is why I don’t have a lot of faith in the USPS. It took 3 days for that package to get from Jamaica NY to San Bernardino CA and then it took another 3 days to cross town to Moreno Valley CA. Unfortunately, I’m in Virginia so I don’t know why it went to California in the first place.
It already travelled from Lithuania the the States. Why not see it all before it gets to its final destination?
Whether or not you want to reveal is completely up to you and every year there is a mix of people that do and don’t. In past years I would estimate that slightly more people don’t reveal than do. When someone puts thought into a gift I have never seen it become a “fail” especially with this group . You obviously have put a lot of thought into your gift so I can guarantee that it is a good one! I also think that it is a good idea. Also as a reminder everyone please remember the OP rule about posting a photo of your Saturnalia gift to this thread after you open it on Saturnalia. Not to be a grinch but I will be making note of those who do not do this for consideration in future Secret Saturnalia participation.
in this vain, I’ll say that I received a mysterious package from MD that may be from Saturn, but I am not sure. I don’t know anyone from there, and I took a quick peek inside to see a handwritten note and an envelope, so I assume this is saturn’s doing! Waiting until the 17th though!
And I have just learned that the above package was NOT from Saturn. (So who every my secret Saturn is, you have not been mysteriously replaced...)
I received a letter from secret Saturn this week which I will not open until the 17th, naturally. Also received my gift from overseas which I will be sending out this week. I was worried I would not get the gift I ordered until too late but it came relatively quickly. Could not find anything appropriate in the US from the usual sources. John
Bumping this thread with a photo of the Secret Saturnalia gift I received last year : Antoninus Pius, AD 138-161. Roman AR denarius, 3.26g, 17.2 mm, 5 h. Rome, AD 161. Obv: DIVVS ANTONINVS, head of Antoninus Pius, bare, right, with drapery on left shoulder. Rev: CONSECRATIO, pyre of four tiers decorated with garlands and statues and surmounted by a quadriga. Refs: RIC 438; BMCRE 60-64; RSC 164a; RCV 5193; MIR 24. Notes: Also struck with a right-facing bare head (no drapery) portrait.
I figured it was time to post another reminder that you have until Friday to sign up in case anyone has missed the thread so far.
I received my first Saturnalia gift today! It is so big and heavy and looks so carefully packed - puts mine to shame I fear. My Avgvsta took the box away from me and will hide it away until the 17th :-D. I´m totally excited - this will put a nice end to a so-and-so year! Hope my gift will reach it´s destination soon.
I'll be on the sidelines this year (came to the party late), but to make up for that, I have posted my own Not-So-Secret Saturnalia giveaway to get into the spirit. (Plus, this thread needed bumping back up to the top.)
Strictly speaking you are still able to sign up for Secret Saturnalia until tomorrow when I do the final pairings.
I know- saw that, and thought about it. But since my non-coin life has been a bit unsettled lately and I don't know when I'll be around (there might be another hiatus), I just went with a solo giveaway instead.
