Where do you buy coins (other than eBay)?

The unfortunate travails of our fellow member, john65999, in signing up for the new eBay marketplace and now finding himself unable to sell coins on that account, has me wondering - where do my fellow travelers buy your coins, other than eBay (and USACoinbook)? I bought a 1919 D SLQ in an auction by Charter Oak Coins a few months back, but I haven't really looked beyond that and, pre-covid, a local swap meet. I'm not a high end collector and I like the fun of the auction and bargain hunting. What are your thoughts, experiences and / or recommendations?

Here's my latest eBay purchase from earlier this evening (seller's photos) - the Anacs EF45 1833 Hawaii quarter intrigued me - I confirmed it was in their registry before I bid, if the other is real too, that's a huge bonus, but my bid only factored in the Anacs slab. I'd hate to see coin sales disappear from eBay:

Great Collections, Heritage, Stacks, Legend (if youre in higher end stuff), Instagram, Some do on FB and Reddit as well. David Lawrence is another dealer/auction house

 

Auction houses via The Saleroom, Invaluable, live auctioneers (be very careful with shipping fees, especially if they only deal with Mailboxes. We had them quote 77£ for shipping 500g once).

Yard sales, coin shows and sometimes dealings with other collectors but obviously there a bit rarer these past few months.

 

I buy in auctions and from dealers’s websites I know from when the shows were operating.

 

You can also check out Collectors Universe. There's quite a volume of coins for sale on that site. I also have joined multiple websites for metal detecting (Friendly, TreasureNet to name a few) that also have private coin sale sections.

I'm a Large Cent junkie, and my go to site is always Largecents.net. Tom Deck runs it and he offers a huge variety of coins (both for sale by him as well as consignment). If you reach out to him for any reason, he is so so responsive and beyond friendly and helpful.

 

I also buy from Great Collections and sometimes Heritage.
Coin shows too when they are operating.
Stack's is too high-end for me.

 

I buy from a small company online called The executive coin company and on amazon

and used to buy from a coin shop here in town also

never bought anything from E-bay

 

Facebook is a great place to buy coins. There is a group called the virtual coin show that I like a lot.

 

Everywhere. In person, from connections I make with school friends, facebook groups, ebay, instagram, very infrequently on letgo or craigslist. I guess not everywhere. I haven't been to the major auction houses yet.

 

I had no idea social media, Facebook and Instagram specifically, provided collecting possibilities. I am reassessing my noninvolvement. Can you do these things under a pseudonym public facing or do you have to let everyone see your personal info?

 

You can make a screen name just like on forums. You can decide what you put in for your info anyways.

 

Richard L Edwards Auctioneer, Big Dog Coin Auctions, Gold Standard Auctions, these guy's sell from several platforms with Invaluable Auctions being the biggest, the three i mentioned above are the ones i like the most, shipping is good, Buyers Premiums are high and vary but you can sign up for a free account directly through Big Dog and Richard Edwards and save on the premium, there are many others on the Invaluable platform but please read the fine print on shipping prices because some auctioneers can be crazy with their shipping and insurance rates.

Silver City Auctioneers are pretty good too, if anyone loves auctions, Richard Edwards runs 3 to 4 coin auctions a week with 300 to 600 lots in each.

Edit: Edwards is having a coin Auction today starting at 5pm ET, 355 lots, I have seen some very nice collections in the past with them and then some that are not that great, it's free to explore lol

 

It really depends on what you're looking for. Two websites I use frequently are "aggregators" - they search dealer's inventories, and put it all in one place. I really like the convenience of this, rather than having to search each dealer separately:
