Coin lost in the mail

I won a coin of Julia Domna from Papillon Auction 2 back in October. I've been waiting for the coin, figuring it's been taking extra time due to covid and US postal system delays. I finally decided to check the tracking. French post says it was left in my mailbox November 9th. Well, I don't have it. It seems wise to require a signature for an item like this. Has anyone else had this problem with Papillon? Fortunately it wasn't an enormously expensive coin, but it wasn't cheap either.

I don't have any experience with Papillon, but if the coin was left in your mail box November 9th and you never received it, try contacting your local post office.

Unfortunately the post office is not collecting signatures due to the pandemic. I haven't signed for any delivery, USPS, Fedex or DHL in months.

One more note: USPS tracking has become quite erratic, especially for tracked first class international mail. I have had items delivered that were never marked "delivered" in the tracking system and are still in transit.

One more suggestion: The coin might have been delivered to another address. One more than one occasion I have received mail belonging to nearby neighbors. You might want to inquire with your next door neighbors.

 

Seems like a lot of people are having problems with orders , across the board lately .

 

I'm waiting on an incoming from France that was shipped two weeks ago. I'm right on the cusp of beginning to worry.

I had a shipment from Budapest arrive five days quicker than one from Phoenix. Had a shipment from Alaska make it to Atlanta in three days, First Class Mail.

There's no rhyme or reason these days.

I have a P.O box, and when a signature is required they leave a slip that I take to the clerk, they bring me the package, and I sign for it there. So I sign for all of my coins sent to the box unless the seller doesn't require a signature. The only way the package itself would be left in the box is if no signature is required, which isn't a very smart way to ship a coin internationally.

Auction houses that use FedEx or DHL, they don't ship to P.O. boxes and aren't taking signatures, so I re-direct the packages so that I can pick them up at the local FedEx and DHL locations.

 

It's the Mail after all.

 

My last 2 orders from Germany took 6 weeks to get here.

When a package requires a signature, the PO is notallowed to just sign for you and leave it. The procedure is, they are allowed to sign for it if they are in your presence and you tell them it's ok to do so, at which time they sign and notate COVID 19 in the signature box.
They should also be able to GPS the delivery location and see an image of the signature.
Go down to your Local PO with the tracking number and have them run the tracking and figure out what happened.

 

No they never do that. The only packages left in the box are those that don't require a signature. If this package was left in the box, no signature was required.

 

My order from Oct. 24 was supposed to be delivered Nov. 3-Nov. 20 still isn't here...

 

They should still be able to GPS the delivery scan location to make sure it was delivered to the right address.

 

More importantly, they will find out which COURIER scanned it in as delivered.

I cannot tell you how many times I've had a package reported as "delivered" that wasn't in the box. I've gotten into the habit of requesting text notifications on all incoming packages with tracking. If the package isn't in the box when I get the text, I call my local Postmaster immediately.

Wherever it was, my package usually gets hand delivered to our office within an hour or two of my call.

Me and Jermaine ( my local Postmaster) are now on first name basis.

Fortunately Postmaster Louis De Joy will be given the boot after Jan. 20th. Good riddance, that man caused so many problems in the Postal Service.

 

This has been my experience also. When I bring it to the seller's attention, and/or my local postmaster, it is amazing how fast they can find a package, even a package from overseas.

 

The postal product they use does not require a signature. It has a tracking number but it is not a registered letter. This is why they charge so cheap for it. In fact the stamp on the envelope had half of the cost I paid for posting so they are even making a profit out of it.

 

I recently had a package with tracking "get stuck" in one of the Postal hubs for 10 days without moving. The hub is in Atlanta, which I am in a suburb of. 10 days and they couldn't get it 4 miles to my local Post Office.

I initiated an investigation as though it was a misdelivered or stolen package. I had it in two days.

I have two items inbound right now that are showing "in transit, arriving late" that will have investigations initiated TODAY.

That usually works like an overdose of ExLax in clearing the log jam. These have been showing this since before Thanksgiving.
