Wow! This thread brings back a lot of old memories and much regret!

I gave my first love, the 1963 1/2 Mercury Comet Caliente to my brother-in-law after I went into the U.S. Army because I owed him so much money and have regretted it ever since. Maybe I can track it down someday if it wasn't wrecked and junked, restore the car and get a bundle for it someday. Since it was a Test (Experimental) car, I was told that if restored to mint condition, it would bring six figures at a big Auto Auction. My second love was my 1969 Ford Fairlane that I bought in Germany. It originally came with a 351 Windsor motor and 3 speed on the column but had a 429 with a Holley 4 barrel and 4 speed Hurst shifter transmission when I bought it. The car was yellow with a black vinyl top, had L60-14 tires on the rear with air-shocks and P195-70-14 (if my memory serves me correctly) tires on the front. It would turn 120 in the quarter mile and the top speed was about 200 mph based on what a Warrant Officer told me that was running along side of me on the Autobahn in his' 1974 Ford Detamaso Pantera GTS on a trip I took to Bad Durkheim. I later had the opportunity to trade my 1969 Ford Fairlane towards the purchase of the 1974 Ford De Tomaso Pantera GTS and pay the balance in payments. If I had not just ordered a new 1978 Ford F-100 before I left Germany, I would have purchased the car. It was sweeeetttt!!!! It had a 351 Cleveland engine, mounted slightly rear of the middle of the car, had a (I think) a 6 Speed (5 Speed with overdrive) transmission and the speedometer registered up to 300 mph.

And if you ever wonder, yes my butt hurts all of time since and 'til this very day as I still go around kicking myself in the butt for not keeping my first and second loves and for not purchasing the Ford De Tomaso Pantera GTS. If they ever build a Time Machine I have dibs on the first trip and I plan on going back to 1973 and 1977 and undo my stupid mistakes.

First car was an 89 Lincoln Mark VII (pretty quick for what it was, had the 302 HO in it) gave it to my brother and he ran it off the road and wrecked it. First one I bought was an 86 Ford F-150 with a 3" body lift and 35's, its currently waiting for an engine since I blew the poor little 302 up that was in it. Currently driving a 1994 Mustang GT.

About 12 years or so off and on

clembo A closed mind is no mind

Having no desire EVER to work on cars it was perfect for me. Slant 6 engine. You just couldn't kill them no matter how hard they were abused.

Cool looking car too. I'd like one in MS70.

The leaning tower of power. I had the "big" 225 cu. in. slant 6 in a 1964 Plymouth Valiant Signet 2 door. It had a factory Hurst 4-speed and bucket seats. I raced it at the old Connecticut Dragway in K/Stock class.
The car could beat V-8 Chevy and V-8 Ford station wagons that also ran in my class.

    Silverstruck,

I have to admit that I am actually a gun guy first, a coin guy second and a car guy last! I may know coins fairly well but I probably know my guns much better!

1/8 mile, I'm assuming, still good numbers for your combo nonetheless. You got a Munci behind a 302? What kind of work did that take?

Yes I was going to say eighth mile but didn't want to sound insulting. You know those Mustangs are heavy. Unless you go to tube frame, fiberglass body parts, supercharging and monster cubic inches, those numbers are hard to believe for a full quarter pass. It can be done without the above ala Bob Glidden pro stock but there are wheelbarrows full of money behind such a car.
