Collectors Universe to be Acquired by Investor Group Led by Entrepreneur and Collector Nat Turner for Approximately $700 Million
I think he realized that just like guessing a grade after a reveal, it's easier to take a world class grading company and keep it a world class grading company.
So what is the general consensus of what this will mean for PCGS? Better? Worse? About the same? Will grading fees increase?
I doubt much will change honestly. CU is also much more than just PCGS. They have a very wide range of other brands that are also successful. I can't imagine they would change much.
One day after the rumors that Ed Wood was buying ICG, CU sells out. They saw the writing on the wall, they know what is coming, and they want no part of Ed Wood.
not amazed at the news it just a matter of time before they got bought out or merged with another company
Likely nothing. If anything it takes away the ability for people to try and attack them for being public. It doesn’t seem like a hands on style investment like if the wood group would have taken it over LOL. Regardless they could always go public again if they wanted
We will see as more announcements are made. Currently everything seems to have slowed down but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the sale (maybe increase in submissions, more stringent lockdown measures, and fewer employees available to handle daily tasks).
