I am a woman and I notice when I go to coin shows its mostly men that are dealers. I have even had dealers comment its rare to see a young woman collect coins. Am I just an exception to the rule, women don't collect coins? I have a few women friends who do collect, but they are a lot more casual than me, just State Quarters and whatever they find in circulation. I think women should get more involved in coin collecting. Its a hobby for both genders.
There are more women collectors, and dealers, out there than you would be led to believe. But percentage wise, as compared to men - it's tiny. Certainly less than %5 and probably smaller based on my experience.
I agree, but you are an exception. The hobby seems to be dominated by males. Not sure why that is, but it is!
I think it's largely because women aren't wired like us. They like to collect just as much as we do, they just tend to like to collect different things.
time come when women will be equal to men. check it. a lot of presidents or prime ministers were women now. not to mention drivers or soldiers. besides, how many of us (collectors) financially is controlled by women?.
I think coin collecting is just starting to become more popular for women. I do see a few at the small coin shows that I attend, of all ages actually. Most of the woman dealers I've seen are the dealers wives just there helping out. I hope that more women do get interested in collecting coins. My wife put her best effort into collecting fractional currency but Longaberger baskets and pottery drew her away from it.
don't under estimate the women. they are very powerful and rich now. besides liberty which we like best is a women.
I'm continuing the efforts to get my wife into collecting. So far, she's taken interest in $2 bills and the bronze spouse medals (we cannot afford the gold ones). It's a start, but remaining hopeful!
All I can say is that my wife would rather spend money than collect it... *Runs from the room*
I agree with you Thender.. My wife also but she also looks out for coins and she has some good circulation finds. Plus she doesn't ever say anything about me buying coins
I would love to see more woman in the hobby! And thats coming from the collector in me as well as the single man
women into coins this is more of what I welcome, Ladies. A woman that collects coins smells so much nicer that some man that is there to see what he can find. I do think that all should be into this coin thing, young old female married family , etc. My wife could care less, but she will look with me. And last year when she went to the jewery mart in Atlanta, Ga she picked me 2 large silver coins. $100. each
I'm in total agreement with CuzzX. It is rare to see a "serious" woman collector and I work in a shop. It's always a nice change of pace to see a woman that knows her stuff rather than waiting on "stinky old men".
With the help of many of you folks here, my wife has a pretty nice collection of world coins and paper money with animals on them, she digs it. I also dig that she collects vintage Martin guitars
Sounds like your wife collects the same things as my wife. She tolerates my coins because it gets me out of her hair for a few hours in the cold winter. Ice
