    Hey all,

Just wondering what is up with the R in LIBERTY of this 1967 LMC? It appears as though it could be a grease-filled strike or some such. It appears as though the letter is wider than normal.

    Thanks for any input.

Thanks Paddy... I mean, you see an area to many coins where it takes a rim hit and leaves gouges... I can see where something could "smoosh" a small area like a letter. I was wondering how a letter of a die filled with grease could create this anomaly, as I would imagine the letter would just be weaker rather than wider.

I was thinking partially grease filled die.

Pickin, thanks for the response... I wasn't sure either. I would imagine a grease filled die would not allow the metal to flow into the filled area causing a weaker looking letter. I cannot imagine the metal flowing in a manner to make it wider. I'm not sure and is why I posted my questioned, as it looked strange and I haven't seen anything like it yet...

Lok at the B it is not uncomon for the R to also be a different size. The size of the letters in Liberty can change dramatically even in the same year.

I guess the T on the coin in question looks a bit wider, when compared to the other coin shown, but with a "normal" strike appearance. Just was a weird looking anomaly to me. Either way I'll put it in a 2x2...
