Mint "Inventory Hold"

I just started buying from the Mint again. On Nov 17, I ordered the two silver piece Mayflower set and and gold reverse proof coin. I got the gold coin on 11/21. The silver set says processing still. I called the Mint and was told the silver set was on Inventory Hold, that they don't mint the whole batch ahead of time and are minting more now. Does this sound right? If so, does anyone have an idea how long it will takes? Thanks to all.

Hmm, interesting. I bought both of those together on the same order so mines sitting there processing as well. I can't believe they wouldn't have had them ready to go out by Thanksgiving.

 

Normal stuff. Just 4 days to receive the gold. That's pretty good. I'm sure the rest of the order will show up soon.

 

My thoughts, bullion ships from authorized vendors. Maybe the gold came from a separate vendor?

 

I want to thank everyone for their replies, they helped a lot. The gold coin is a gift for my son so I guess it was lucky I had time to place two separate orders. I wasn't even going to get the silver set for myself, but it was so fast and easy to order that day. Again I appreciate all the answers!

 

Got the gold's, returned them.

Silvers were still 'processing' when the gold arrived. Cancelled the silver so I wouldn't have to pay return shipping.

Incredibly disappointing releases. The gold RP is the same coin as the proof, only in RP. Incredibly underwhelming coins & medals.

 

I sent the gold back .....I see they are already selling for less on eBay
But I did buy a ticket for the last train ride of the year at the Strasburg Railroad.

 

A bunch of people bought this stuff intending to flip and then FLOODED ebay at the same exact time. What did they think was going to happen? If 400 people want the gold reverse proof and the clowns have listed 600 of a 5k mintage at the exact same moment in time desperate to get their credit cards paid, then 200 will have to sell for less or send back to the mint. I guess people have to learn this lesson over and over every year.
With only 5k of them out there, eventually these will be harder to find. But they sure aren't scarce right now. I'm still waiting to get mine. Held up by the two coin silver set that we can't figure out WTH they're doing with.
